I've got my X360 set up

OK, so I had Xbox Live for a few months on Xbox when Halo 2 came out.

I've since cancelled my subscription.

Now I'm trying to sign up for Xbox Live Silver, or whatever.

It's asking me to input the last four digits of my credit card and various other things so I can recover my account.

By doing this, am I going to automatically get signed up for a Gold membership?

Is there some way I can recover my old gamertag without getting signed up for XBLG?
