Window Media Center Extender Remote
« on: November 11, 2004, 12:12:00 PM »

Ok- yeah- it's competition, but I noticed a power switch on the remote.  Someone here surely picked one up to look for new ideas, so, does the button work?  Any chance it will be able to work with <enter mod here> and XBMC?

New remote for it looks well cool. Hope some shops will be selling it seperate. Looks much better to use with XBMC.

Buttons look much better layed out and better quality.

The remote is just about identical to the MCE 2k5 remote (which is very very similar to the old media center remote) except it is black. If you didnt already know this, it means you dont have a Media Center machine, which means you shouldnt buy the extender. This is not XBMC competition! sheesh.

I can't see why someone wouldn't get the remote to work.

Anyway.. I'm considering designing a protocol that would be an extended version of upnp.  Basically, you load up the program on your computer, select what "services" you wish to provide, and you gain access to all services on the lan.  For XBMC, the benefit would be you plug it in, DHCP does its thing, and you have access to the shares.

Thoughts?

Unless the remote is sold seperately, I don't see the logic in why someone would pay $80 for just a non universal remote for the xbox.

Best case scenario for me is the XBMC team adds some sort new commands through the standard IR receiver the XBMC can recognize so we can all just buy and program a far supperior remote control for RCA settings.
