My Home server is based on Win 2000 Server OS (runs as a DNS, WebServer, Mail server etc)  It also used to be be the media server to my Pinnacle Showcase unit.  Just got the XBOX360 yesterday and was loooking to see what options I had with Win2K server and streaming .. Stumbled across

http://www.tversity.com/

Works fine as a picture, music server to the Xbox biggrin.gif  install was a dream .. simple

Have not tried Movies yet, however thats what it was first created for so should be OK ..

Also offers web media options ie can stream pics, music from the web..

Hope it helps some others who may not be able to run the MS offerings

...I have a modded xbox classic but it choked on high def content which I want to be able to watch.

I have heard that XBMC 2.0 can play HD content unless it's encoded into a very CPU intensive compression standard like h.264 (with cabac and deblocking).  Did you try the HD video in MPEG2?

guys...it's called Media Player 11 and it lets you share music, pics, and video from any xp based computer on your network.  i downloaded it from microsoft's site and the setup was so simple once i got my 360 on my wifi.  i can now easily browse through all my crap that's on my main system.

besides, microsoft isn't offering media connect any more on their websites...they're saying to install media player 11 to get the pc to 360 sharing capabilities.  not sure why they stopped supporting media connect though.

prob. a router not accepting UPnP traffic (try to enable it in its settings) or some anti-viruses (like trend micro) block certain parts of the network stack in windows, uninstall any and try again..

g3cko, looks like there's some sites here, not sure if they're virus-free though:

So...Am I right in believing that I can't get media center if I'm just using a "normal" Windows XP Pro SP2? I'm REALLY confused here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)
