Freeboot_alt.bin

in freeboot 12611 you should now use freeboot_alt.bin if you dont have a dvd drive fitted. this is fine with me, but i would like to know what freeboot_alt.bin does exactly. does 12611 have some kind of new check to make sure a dvd drive is present?
