hi i dont mean to hijack this thread but my xenon xbox has the same problem now too, after i booted up halo1 after flashing successfully freeboot 0.32 to my jtaged xbox.  I'm getting a single ring e79 1033 error no matter what i do, ive checked and rechecked every diode direction and solder point.  I tried reflashing my freeboot nand image again via lpt, no good.  I'm currently flashing back the stock nand in an attempt to isolate whether or not it is a jtag wiring error.  The only thing i can think of besides a missing xam.xex is that is it possible that two soldered joints are shorting against the underside of the board? i will check with my multimeter however it is not with me right now.

I had the very same thing happen to me when I upgraded to freeboot .32 on both a xenon and zyphyr. they both booted up good turned on and off ok couple dozen times each and both played a few game but after I unplugged the power overnight they now boot e79 everytime though it was the wiring so flashed back the original nand to both and the zyphyr wont power with or without the jtag points soldiered and the xenon worked just fine once I placed xbr3 back. To me it seems like there could be something a little glitchy with the boot up using the jtag hack with freeboot .32.

Im new here, thought Ill post...

I got the same error, I just update from XBR to Freeboot 32 and a few hours later Im getting E79 1033. I managed to boot it up by pressing the DVD drive button though but since then no luck, just E79 now all the time.

I did have problem with the jtag connection earlier. When I first did the jtag on my xenon I was using the 2 diodes, it worked fine for a week. Then all of the sudden I was getting E79 so I had to use 3 x330 ohms resistor that did fixed it until I reflash the NAND with freeboot this morning.

Will reflash the NAND back to XBR see if that fix the problem. What Im worried about is that the jtag hack could be damaging the circuity and causing the hack to fail. Will try BAT41s or even the transistors see if those are more reliable.

Im just hoping its just a freeboot 32 problem.

Thanks for the link, the one I follow is very similiar to that tutorial.

Well it appears that I do have a HW problem, pressing down on one of the chip next to the GPU heatsink (near to the fan) while turning on the xbox allow it to boot up to the dash. Re melt the solder using a heat gun and flux around the 2 chips next to the GPU fan seemed to have fixed it. Pressing down on that same chip would sometimes give me rrod, so Im hoping that I have also fixed the rrod permanently.

Ill leave it running a game for a while and see what happen. The fan is set to 60% at the moment and have also upgraded the GPU heatsink to the later version and the clamps are all orginal.

Temps are :

CPU : 68
GPU : 49
RAM : 49
MB : 28

A little update...

12hrs later no more E79 error.

So the problem isnt related to freeboot bugs, just my HW isnt working right and most likely a dry joint caused by the overheating.

Cheers
