What do you mean solder ball? This is a stock drive I'm trying to fix, it's not modded in any way and i would like to keep it that way because it's my only console and i don't want to get it banned.

Well with the 7x series liteon you have 2 options, use a connectivity kit and probe to dump just the key, or use the BOXXDR method which will get you your complete drive firmware with the key. The BOXXDR method is what I would recommend to you since your wanting to stay 100% safe on live. ( You can follow that guide here http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=698256 )

On the ribbon cable of the new laser there may be a blob of solder to protect the laser from ESD.
Have a look at the bottom of this page (Bottom right of the picture in a green circle), yours will be different but you now know what to look for.
