Help With Dvd Drive Replacement
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:35:00 PM »

Ok, I have finally exerted all the patience I possibly can with this dam Hitachi drive.

I want to replace it with a BenQ (this is the best one right?) so what is the procedure?

I used jungle flasher and have my dvd key on file.

Can someone please explain the basic procedure for going about this, is it as simple as plugging in the new drive and doing the spoof thing in jungle flasher?

I don't know what spoofing is, so if someone can just give me the details, that would be awesome

Thanks in advance

Spoofing means to take your key, which belonged to a Hitachi drive, and putting it on a BenQ, but making the console think that the BenQ is still the Hitachi drive. When consoles have their DVD drive's "married" to them, the console knows which Drive ID is supposed to be connected to it. If you improperly spoof a drive and it doesn't appear to be what is supposed to be in the console, then you will get an error at boot.

Take your Hitachi key and open it in JungleFlasher as your Source Firmware, then load a BenQ firmware into the Target Firmware box, click 'Spoof Source to Target' and then it will do the rest. Save your file and then you are set to flash that new BenQ firmware onto your BenQ drive and it will work with your console.

I think I may be in trouble..so the file is the OFW bin file? I have the notepad file that has the log and dvd key but I don't have the bin files.

They are on an old desktop that has crapped out and doesn't boot up, I will see if I can recover them...otherwise I am pretty much screwed right?

edit:

Out of curiosity, does having a spoofed drive increase the chances of being banned even with all stealth precautions being taken? (of course there is always a chance no matter what)

If you just have the key, then you can load the BenQ firmware into JungleFlasher as Target, then click 'Manual Spoofing'. This will allow you to inject a key into a firmware and spoof it to whatever drive you want. In your case, it would be a Hitachi [version], but its all done manually. You can save the firmware after you spoof it and then proceed to flash it to your BenQ drive.

There are no precautions you can take right now to have a modded console on LIVE. If you go on LIVE, you will be flagged.
