New Release Won't Play Music
« on: October 10, 2004, 10:31:00 AM »

After having upgraded to the last release (10-06-04) of XBMC, it won't play my music anymore. Instead it sounds like it just resamples one note - sort of like a CD that's stuck in its track. (I had this issue with the 9/25 release as well.) This is what "Janie's Got a Gun" sounds like for me now. (recorded on a PC via external mike.) It is the same for MP3s and WMAs.

AVIs and DVD rips will play images fine but the soundtrack comes out as garbled as the music files do. Again, if I go back to the one-oh release, everything plays fine.

BIOS 4983.06. Chip: 2.xL
Slayer says I have a 1.00.4983.06 kernel.
I boot from C:, my apps are all on E:, and I keep my a/v files on F:.

When installing I have deleted the T/UDATA folder. I have tried both copying over the entire release into a new folder, and writing over an already working release, as well as installing a copy I know works on another xbox. Also downloaded/compiled the latest mplayer from sourceforge without any luck.

Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone know how to fix?

edit: added sound clip & set up info

I don't know if this'll help but use the mplayer.dll file Here Place it over the mplayer.dll file and conf file found in the "mplayer" folder.

1. Try deleting your old XBMC save manually by deleting them from the
TDATA and UDATA
Here's the locations

TDATA\0face008\
UDATA\0face008\

X-ace. I need you to do 2 things.

1. First try this method. Open up a file manager, choose XBMC. select the "albums" folder. Delete the file "MyMusic6.db". also choose the "thumbs" folder and delete the folder inside called "temp". Now try.

2. If it still doesn't work, name all the files you have in the "mplayer" folder and the files found in the other folders inside the "mplayer" folder.

I deleted the MyMusic6.db. No dice.
There was a MyMusic5.db too. But deleting this still did not solve my problem.

My mplayer folder contains the following:

MPLAYER
Codecs (folder)
DVDkeys (folder)
font (folder)
codecs.conf
input.conf
menu.conf
mplayer.conf
mplayer.dll

CODECS
atrc3260.dll
cook3260.dll
drv13260.dll
drv23260.dll
drv33260.dll
drv43260.dll
pncrt.dll
registry.dat
sipr3260.dll
tokr3260.dll
wmadmod.dll
wmsdmod.dll
wmspdmod.dll
wmvdmod.dll

DVDkeys
[empty]

FONTS
{several arial folders}
font.desc
iso-8859-1-a.raw
iso-8859-1-b.raw
osd-mplayer-a.raw
osd-mplayer-b.raw

Use Jaydee's Codec Package. To download them Click Here

Use them and place these in the codecs folder. Don't copy over the same file name of the same codec. Example

XBMC Folder: Quicktime.qts
Codecs Package: Quicktime.qts

Just add the ones that you don't have. Total count of codecs should add up to 31.
Also make sure that you're only using the Project Mayhem Skin.

There were 18 codecs in Jaydee's pack. There are 10 files in the 10-06 distro. Since I chose not to overwrite, and only copied files I did not have, There are now 19 files in the codecs folder (incl one readme file). Still no go.

Also wanted to let you know I tried the following. I deleted the entire MPLAYER folder in this release, and replaced it with the one from the one-oh release. No go.

OK, so I tried Diontae's version. Whatever he has and that is working on his machine, does not work on mine. My machine is a ver 1 or 1.1, and I have deleted the Tdata/Udata files before running the new install. What is going on?

This is what the problems sounds like.

Nobody has any idea? No one else has run into this?

hmmm.... the fact it happens to mp3's suggests more likely it is a mplayer issue than any codec issue (no external codecs used to decode mp3).

did you try Diontae18 suggestion about downloading Ezar's version of mplayer into the \mplayer folder?

or you can get one included with the current cvs- here (not as up to date but known to be stable)

Settings are stored specifically in E:\TDATA\0face008 so deleting the udata folder doesn't really help- (alternativley reset settings by holding back & start together during xbmc load)

i've messed around with the Audio options in the settings to see if i could recreate your problem but couldn't- so i don't think it can be anything wrong with your settings (which should revert to the default anyway once deleting the game save/ holding back & start)

so try the another mplayer.dll

Yeah, I tried Diontae's suggestion. I tested Ezar's version, and even installed Diontae's version of xbmc on my box. Neither would work.

I am downloading the dll from sourceforge and will try later tonight. (The file is named mplayer.135 and I assume all I have to do is exchange the .135 with a .dll extension.)

Won't get my hopes up though. I think it is a curse...

nimbles, I tryed to recreate his problem too, I've got nothing. X-ace, where and how is XBMC Used. Are you using XBMC off a disc, Harddrive (If harddrive which Location), Did you use just the newer default.xbe file. Need to be more specific so that we can get a better understanding of your problem.

nimbles, The release I gave him works 100% on my xbox. I also gave it to over 600 people, none of them complained. Maybe it's the bios he's using. I'm not sure but there has been applications that has been acting up with certain bios
i.e. Indi-bios, X3. Maybe this could be his problem.
