move all your data over to an original hard drive or mem card before the update and you will be fine

A MS employee has confirmed that they are only targeting memory cards and not the hdds due to the wide spread of unauthorised hdds and the difficulty to tell them apart.

But then again they might just be saying that so you do lose your data.

They aren't banning your console, they are blocking the device from working.

I believe its just the Datel Memory Max 2gb or 4gb.  I can see this getting pretty nasty.  Something like class action, I mean someone is going to have to compensate the consumers.  Either Datel or MS.  It would depend on what it says on the packaging if it says authorized for use with xbox 360 or something.  There really is no point for MS to do this, its not gonna stop achievement hacking or anything like that, as its easy enough to read off a normal stock harddrive.
