Backup Of Halo 3 Odst
« on: September 24, 2009, 01:20:00 PM »

Hello everyone, I'm a noob that has just signed up, and have only recently got into modding my XBox 360 and backing up my games (I hope I've posted this post in the right forum (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)).

Ok, I've followed most of the many tutorials on the net, and think I have pretty much gotten backing up my games down now. However, I have just bought the new Halo 3 ODST, and am having problems backing it up...

I am using a Samsung SH-D162D with Kreon firmware to read the discs, and a Sony Optiarc DL DVD-RW to burn.
For software I am using XBC V2.8 along with ImgBurn.

I can create the .iso file from the original just fine with XBC, but I keep getting the following error message at around 50% - 51% of the burn with ImgBurn.

(IMG:http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c129/Taffylude/ErrorMessage.jpg)

Like I say, I have backed up dozens of my other games using the same process with no problems, but funnily enough I had the exact same problem when I came to backup my original Halo 3 game as well??

I have tried switching SplitVid both on and off in XBC to see if that made any difference, but it didn't.

Has anyone had this problem before with these particular games, and if so is there a get-around for me to back them up successfully?

Thanks.

Have you tried running your rip through abgx to make sure it isn't corrupt in any way?

make sure with imgburn you open the file with the extension .dvd and not the one with the extension .iso

Use Verbatim DVD +R DL

Dont use memorex or other shitty media, sony etc.

You can see he used the .dvd file, Power calibration error is normally due to 2 problems.
Really poor media quality or the dvd burners laser is too worn out.

So try Verbatim at 2.4X or 4X speeds if it still gives you problems you need a new burner,
Dual layers really take the full power of a burner to write to.

Thanks guys, I have ordered some Verbatim's and will see how I get on with them.

The Optiarc writer is virtually brand new, but maybe there are better DL writers on the market. Are there any recommendations for one that stands out above the rest?

i personally use a samsung drive that i have been very happy with, but everyone recommends pioneer drives. i have NEVER heard a negative thing about them. do you have any other machines around with a dvd burner (such as a laptop?) maybe you could try moving your iso/dvd file over the lan onto that machine and try burning from there.

as majin said, your dvd burner is almost definitely the problem.
