I’ve Bought My Xbox 360 Flashed
« on: September 07, 2009, 11:29:00 PM »

Hello
I bought my xbox 360 elite flashed with ixtreme 1.4 I think (not sure). So I was able to play copy games until wave 3 come out. So I decided to flash my drive which after disassembling my x360 it was cleared that it is Philips & BenQ VAD6038. I have read  BenQ section in "Textbook's Xbox 360 Firmware Flashing Tutorial also called hacking the xbox 360 for noobs" which illustrate flashing with iprep. Also read updating firmware section after the section of flashing Samsung. drive. So I have some question that I hope you find sometime to answer them:

Q1: Updating firmware section in the above tutorial is related to samsung only or to all drives?

Q2: My BenQ drive was flashed when I bought it so I don't have the first bootable media was used, is there any way to restore to the original firmware without the need for first used bootable media?

Q3: If there is no way. So How am I going to update My BenQ with ixtreme 1.6? So can I flash it by Repeating Entire Process as mentioned in the above tutorial without disabling or bypass FirmGuard? or I should bypass FirmGuard only with Samsung drive not with my BenQ?

Q3: If I can't flash My BenQ unless I bypass FirmGuard, Should I use the 0800 Disc Method or VIA & bad-flash or there is another method for BenQ?

Q4: What is the safest environment with lowest potential of error for dumping the drive key? is it Dos or Windows or other?

Q5: What flasher do you recommend from your experience?

Also, I have just finished reading the following headlines in Jungleflasher Tutorial.
-Pre requisites
-Lite-On PLDS DG-16D2S 74850c
-BenQ VAD6038 (62430c and 64930c)
-Appendix

My question are:
Q1: I understood from jungleflasher tutorial that there will be a risk of obtaining Incorrect Key file before erasing. They mention this in Lite-on section. So Jungle team advice is to spoof the data (Key, Inquiry, Identify and dummy.bin) to another drive. If the same proplem may occur in BenQ flashing (and they didn't mention that so I am asking to be sure). What kind of drive? is it must be x360 BenQ VAD6038 drive the same as I has?
Or BenQ don't have this proplem?

Q2: If my drive is already flashed with ixtreme 1.4 and I want to upgrade it to ixtreme 1.6. From Jungle tutorial unlocking the drive doesn't have to be with half open tray method, Is this correct?

I know I’ve asked a lot of questions. But it is my first flashing so I need to be sure and ready.

asking question about what you dont understand is good so let me see if i can help clear up a few. ive never flashed a sam before but i think the process between flashing the benq and the sam is very close if not the same. forget about reading on the liteon and hit drives theres alot of diff between flashing them ( enough to futher confuse you).
you will flash your already flashed benq the same way you would if it was a virgin benq.
dont really understand what you mean by bootable media.
no need to restore it to original you only need the key from the drive with is contained in the ofw.bin file that you will read and save from your drive. it contains the key witch is what you need.
ive flashed a few benqs and have never used anything called firmguard and dont know what that prog does.
as far a the firmware 1.6 0800 goes thats only for flashing 360 drive that are now hocked to a pc and used for ripping games only. so 0800 is not what you need and will not work.
you do need to flash with 1.6 but not 1.6 0800.

as long as your just dumping the key you stand a real low chance of messing up. it when you start erasing and writing. the easiest way is with jungleflasher. if your pc start frezzing alot then try dos but once you have a could key or the ofw.bin file saved and backed up you can fix most mistakes. getting the key and saving it should be he first thing you do.

as far as what flasher to use i fd a great video tut at robinhoodsplayground for iprep that i used my first time but jungleflasher is ok to. to me there both about as easy to use but id start with jungleflasher.

you will still need to do the tray half closed method to put the drive in vender mode or as its also called unlocking the drive.

good luck and ck youtube for some video tuts. there a few good ones

thanks blong579 for your great help. Are you sure about unlocking my BenQ drive which is flashed by ixtreme 1.4 by half open tray method?. Jungle flasher tutorial says I don't have to. Also, In Jungleflasher tutorial it says "After saving target firmware to a file JungleFlasher will then prompt you asking if you would like to auto-load iXtreme for BenQ Drives. You must have installed the JungleFlasher Firmware Pack into the same directory as JungleFlasher.exe"

I can't find Jungleflasher Firmware Pack?. What does it mean & where I can find it?.

i havent ever read the jungleflasher tut. but i think you still need to do the half tray but its very easy to do. assuming your using the 360 as the power source and not a ck3 you would power on the 360 eject the drive remove the power connector from the drive  slide the tray alittle over half way in and plug the power back up.  .

as for your second question you will need ixtreme 1.6 for benq. you can get from a program called xbins. i downloaded xbins from robinhoodsplayground.com. he also has lots of other progs to download and some great video tuts. the first one i flashed i following his video tut for iprep. when jungleflasher asks about autoload i just say no and point it the 1.6 for benq firmware.  use the newest version of jungleflasher. if your version says the 1.6 firmware is not good then you may need to install the def file for jungleflasher but im sure this would not be a problem if you get the newest version. it may go with out saying but alot of people have plugged the tray power connector in upside down and fryed there drive. if you do that before you get the key you xbox is junk.  before i got my ck3 i would put a mark with a sharpie on the connector and drive to keep me from plugging it in upside down.

thanks blong579 for warning me about plugging the power connector in upside down position. But what the correct position of the plug because I have already unplugged it so I take off the drive to examine it.?. I have to put a mark so I don't make this vital error.

I think I am now ready for flashing . I’ll check videos you linked me. After all reading is not like watching.

I have checked the power plug of dvd drive. It is the white one. I have noticed 2 Projections 1 at each side. These Projections I’ve to make sure to fit it exactly when I plug the head to the drive. The black one is obviously the SATA. Just saying that for anyone like me flashing for first time to be cautious.
