128mb Ram Upgrade
« on: January 08, 2005, 08:24:00 PM »

I just did the 128MB RAM upgrade to a V1.4 motherboard with a X3 with the 1959 BIOS.  The Xbox boots up as normal after the upgrade except the extra RAM does not show up under the XBMC.

I have went over each chip four times desoldering any excess solder and then individually hitting each pin with a Weller 12W soldering pencil.

The chips were removed from a broken V1.1 motherboard by myself and then used for this install.

The only thing that I can think of is that one of the ic chips is bad.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

can you try an X2 bios? Like 4983? I do not know if the X3 bios supports 128 MB since I am too cheap to buy an X3 :)

I just assumed that the X3 BIOS supported 128MB RAM because the later X2 BIOS supported it.  I tried with the X2 4983 BIOS and booted to Avalaunch.  Still only 64MB RAM.  My X3 chip also says 64MB RAM.  I guess I will replace one of the upgrade chips at a time and hope the first chip I replace fixs it.

My X3 says I have 128 in the X3 info section. Latest X3 BIOS. Sounds like a chip issue.

I tried the latest X3 and X2 BIOS but it still registers only 64MB RAM.  The Xbox still works as normal and last night I used it to stream movies through XBMC.
