Xbox 360 Freezes During Gameplay
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:11:00 AM »

First of all, hi everyone, thanks for the many faqs on this forum and all that ^^

Now I tried googling my problem and though there were loads of results, none were particularly helpful. Hope someone here will know how to help me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) (yes I did check the freeze faq here)

My problem is that 3 out of 5 games so far, freeze on me while playing. They don't get stuck in the loading screen, but just during the game (though once while it was reading the disc in the dashboard) at random moments.

Games that haven't crashed after playing for a while: Soul Calibur IV, Street Fighter IV
Games that DID crash after a few minutes: Gears of War 2, Dead or Alive 4, Resident Evil 5

- All 5 of the games are non-original discs (I do not possess the original discs at this moment, so I can't check if they'd work), burnt on Verbatim DVD+r DL (MKM 003) on 4x speed.
- The booktype wasn't set on DVD-ROM, but I left it on default. I don't think that'd be the problem since the games ARE being read (and I'm having some issues getting it on DVD-ROM)
- All games, except for Soul Calibur, were burnt with IMGburn. Soul Calibur was burnt with XBC 2.8. Both working games were the first 2 games I had burnt. I'll just assume this is coincidence.
- The xbox 360 is modded with iXtreme 1.3 on a Samsung DVD drive.
- There is no memory such as a stick or HDD in the xbox 360 yet

I hope this is enough information for someone to help me give some tips and solutions to get this problem out of the way. Thanks in advance!

Another update: Last night wanted to play with friends - RROD

I traded this xbox 2 days ago for a nintendo DS. I might have gotten screwed over, but I'll try the x-clamp fix soon. For now I'll just use the towel trick. Last night it worked for me to just wrap a thin towel around it for 10 minutes and it worked for the rest of the night. Don't feel like doing it too often though, since it will probably only make things worse inside.

How old is the burner you are using? As a matter of fact, how old is the drive in the 360? Try burning your games at 2.4x. I know it takes a longass time(+-40 minutes) but the theory here is that it makes for a better, more reliable burn. Have you thought about updating the firmware on the drive?

@vb_encryption_vb
He said the Xbox 360 doesn't have an HDD yet.

I used 4x since some supported FAQ on here told me that for Verbatim the best thing is to burn at designated speed or higher, so I thought I'd just go with 4x.
Anyway, as it seems, it probably wasn't the problem with my burns, since I have an RROD now.

The burner is 1.5 year old. According to the old seller, the xbox should be about 3 months old, though I now doubt the trustworthyness of him, but I don't really mind as long as I can get it fixed.

Thanks for your response
