For Hitachi's it's recommended NOT to use VIA cards.

Have you tried using JungleFlasher's Hitachi Mode-B option?

Load into windows, power your drive on, load JungleFlasher, click Hitachi Tab, then send Mode-B ?

You may then need to scan for hardware changes in your Device Manager....  Then you should be good to go.

Here is a link for JungleFlasher  http://xrl.us/begtm5

Yes, Load into Windows.  Load JungleFlasher (install portio / .net etc), Power Drive, Click Hitachi tab, scroll through the IO ports until you see one listing your hitachi, then click Send Mode-B.

JungleFlasher seems to be working until it just locks up my PC.

I don't get it. I can detect the drive in jf, even send it into modeb. But it always just freezes my PC.

Before it froze the first time I tried to get a dump after modeb and it said it couldnt read the keys, my fw is possibly corrupt. That doesnt really make any sense though since this drive has never been flashed before.

Any ideas?

You can only use JungleFlasher to Mode-B and Dump at the moment.

What Operating system?

Does it completely freeze?  Have you tried power cycling the PC or "restarting" the Hitachi.

I would try each port then, if it still doesnt work your chipset may just be incompatitable.  Do you have a VIA Card?

For most, the VIA card is probably the best route.  It's more than likely if you have only 2 ports on your mobo that your chipset isn't compatitable.

Yeah I only had two ports on that mobo that I was using.

Guess what, I tried this on my gaming rig with slax and it worked! Im so happy..

I used flashix.bat so I think I am done now. I just dont have any games to test.

Does flashix.bat backup, patch and write the f/w all in one shot? Thats what it seems like it did.

Thanks for all your help Proppo.
