Flash Phillips With Intel 9 Chipset -
« on: September 14, 2008, 06:57:00 PM »

Sorry, correct topic this time  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

So, i've been doing some reading after a friend quoted me £90 to chip my xbox, i figured i would look into doing it myself.

Borrowing 10star of a friend in the morning, figured i have a Phillips DVD-ROM drive.

The only computer i have at home is a (Motherboard)
http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/moth...ry-overview.htm

    * Intel® G965 Express Chipset

Will this work with iprep? The guide i am reading seems to suggest only Nforce and VIA will work with phillips. But Iprep says the following:

(IMG:http://i36.tinypic.com/zvpy4n.jpg)

And actually, i don't think i installed my Chipset drivers last time i formatted windows, so that might be why.

But, should i buy a pci card for VIA or Nforce chipsets todo this ?

Also, am i under the correct assumption the only products i need todo this are the 10star and a compatable chipset?

btw, I have flashed things before, flashed my bios a few times, and a router or 2 with routertech. So i know it can go horribly wrong.

My only problem btw, is i would much rather use a method that does not require soldering the PCB

You need to figure your drive model out for sure. If its a benq an ich9 will not work without using the vcc method.
If its a lite-on there is no way to write to it currently. However you can dump the firmware and use a replacement drive.
If I were you I would do some more reading  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I have read the very long tutorial word for word, a few infact and seen multiple video's.

I didn't pick the 10star up today, but i know its a Phillips shaped drive by comparing images. I am not sure though, as to which it is exactly until i open it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

As stated you NEED a Nforce or Via card for fladhing a BenQ drive.

How new is the system??  The BenQ and LiteOn have the same tray shape.

Again as stated if you have a Lite on Drive.. you have to solder a RS232 port to the drive to dump the key and then buy a different drive to place the key in.

If the console was manufactured after april of 08 or recently refurbished you could possibly have a lite-on drive.
Here is a way to find out without opening your console.

Well that just confused me even more.

the differences between the holes i see are:

White or black tabs,
Wire inside or no wire
and wire color

My drive has a black tab with a white wire.

Both the benQ and the Lite-on have white tabs, and non have a white wire!

I am correct in assuming that black and red are wires yes? BenQ with black, Lite-on with red?

btw, i bought mine in about april ish, so i should imagine its the benq :/....

If the wire is yellow you have a lite-on drive.
If its white you have a benq. In the picture it looks like a whitish-grey.

if the wire is white it should be a benq but u still need a compatible board such as a nforce4 or higher motherboard or buy a via card 6421 i believe is the model if its liteon i would wait to flash when something better comes for the drive
