I just purchased an Xbox elite and I have already disassembled it and I have also ordered my pci via chipset and my samsung shd-162c. Now I want to be positive about what to use to flash my benq drive. I have firmware benq iextreme 1.41 and I wanted to make sure that this is the firmware that I need to flash my drive with. It also seems from what I have read that all I will need to do to my drive is to flash it with this firmware and it will be capable to read backups, and no soldering would be necessary. If I could get one of you highly experienced pros to confirm what if this information is correct I would be very grateful. Thank you

You will have to dump your firmware first because every xbox has a unique key which you will have to inject to the hacked firmware before flashing...
There is a program called iPrep that prepares your hacked firmware after the dump search for it...
ALso download this tutorial and read it before actually flashing anything it explains the whole process very well...

I should have explained myself more clearly, sorry about that. I have all of the files that I need and I did read somewhat in the tutorial and I do understand about needing the key from my benq, but I just wanted to be absolutely sure that I am using the correct file to flash the drive with. I guess it probably explains all of this in Textbooks tutorial if I was to finish reading it completely right? Like I said I just wanted to make absolutely positive that I use the correct firmware to flash my benq. Thanks for you response

I just flashed my BenQ drive using textbook guide to 8X. If I wanted to test the other drive speeds (6X, 12X, etc.), do I start the
re-flash
on the
"fBen ####### #####"
command or do I start from scratch at
"dBen ####### #####"
command?

as long as you have copied the correct firmware to the right folder and injected your DVD key, you can just use fben

no, you always need to injext your key first. inject your key in th 12x firmware using 360fwtoolbox. then just copy it to your USB stick under 'BACKUPS/xxxxxxx/xxxxx/' and rename it to BENQ-CFW.bin. then you can just boot that usb stick and use fben to flash.
i highly suggest you make multiple backups of the BENQ-OFW.bin in that same folder. that is your original firmware and should be kept safe
