09-25 Cvs No Menus
« on: September 25, 2004, 08:55:00 PM »

I've just installed the 09-25 CVS and when it loads, I get no text on the menus.  Its really wierd.  I can tell I'm moving between menu choices because the back ground picture changes.  And, if I hit enter, the screen changes.  But, there is no text on any of the screens.

I'm guessing I have to edit something in one of the xml files in the skin, but I've not got a clue which one.

Any help?

Thanks,

I actually installed it into a new subdirectory called XBMC-040925.

That way I can keep my working stable version.  I'm glad I did!

I also tried deleting the save directories too.

Still no text on the menus.

I also copied my modified skin from my stable install and it works.  But, I'm not sure if it is showing me all of the new features of this build.  That's why i want the default skin to work.

Any other thoughts?

I checked arial.ttf and it is already in /media/fonts .

I also tried installing the Baby Mayhem theme and it did the same thing.  I get backgrounds, but no text.

Any other thoughts?

I've also tried deleted the entire install and recopying it.

Still no menus (& no joy).

At least I still have my stable 1.0 install.

Any other thoughts?

Hi had exactly same problems with the 0909 build and solution was:
- use flashfxp for file transfer
- do not forget to overwrite the xbe file in C drive's root folder (if using as dash)  <

huiha,

Really?? How did changing your FTP client fix it?  I'm using Filezilla and it reports no transfer errors.

Also, I'm not using XBMC as my dashboard, so I'm ok on my C drive.

If no one else comes up with anything I'll get a copy of flashfxp and try it.

You'd thing that XMBC using Filezilla as its FTP server code, that it would get along nicely with the Filezilla client!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Really =)

I had used ws_ftp and it didn't report any problems during the file transfer - except that the file transfer took a loong time, especially with font files. Files did transfer eventually in full size but... don't know.

With flashfxp no worries - in my case.

I think I'm going to wait a couple of days for the next CVS build and see what happens with it before I go out and buy new FTP software.

Thanks huiha.

Make sure you have the arial.ttf in the media/font directory.

Download a complete new cvs or build from your prefered source.
Delete all saves for xbmc from your ms dashboard then reinstall.
Make sure you install the new language files.
Make sure you launch the new install.  <

JayDee, someone else pointed me to the arial font.  It was already in the media/font directory.

mc_365, that's my plan as soon as a new CVS comes out.  Although, with the feature freeze that's on right now, it might be a while before one comes out.

So, I'm still at a loss.  As I said before, at least my 1.0 install is still working.  I'm very glad I decided to not blow it away.

Thanks.
