Flash To Ix1.3
« on: November 12, 2007, 06:20:00 PM »

i usually flash using the method soso explains in a great little tutorial around here somewhere. it goes like this:

prepare firmware with fw toolbox (spoof and key)
create usb drive with xtreme boot maker
delete Xflash, Xread, Samtool, Xtremefw.bin files from USB
boot from usb and use these commands to flash:

to read   -    mtkflash r /m orig.bin
to write  -    mtkflash w /m hacked.bin

i did just this but it doesnt seem to work. i havent updated fw since the first rev of ix1.2 came out, so maybe i missed a trick. do i need to use iprep or something?

just reinstalled my via6421 using the latest drivers, so that should be all good i think

You say it doesn't work - what part causing the problem?

Also, forget about what drivers you have installed - you should be doing this at a DOS prompt, so there are no drivers needed - MTKFlash should be talking directly to your hardware.

Thanks for the reply

I try to read from the drive (an MS25) but MTKflash just stops when it should be reading. the prompt says the drive is scanned on channel 1, and i think its meant to be ch. 0. perhaps i need to mess with my SATA card to get the drive on channel 0. I dont wanna try writing until i can read.

I had this working last time i flashed, so i made a point of writing out exactly what i did for when this day came. still managed to balls it up tho  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

since i flashed to ixtreme 1.2 my SATA PCI card stopped working so i had to reinstall it so that i could make a USB boot disk with xtreme boot maker. maybe its a SATA problem.

So do i need to use iprep with the new definitions, or can i still use xtreme boot maker?

thanks i just sussed it out a few minutes ago.

the fact i totally forgot about is that the firmware is the only thing that makes an ms25 an ms25, so the fact that it already has xtreme firmware on it means that i have to do the 10 sec trick like on an ms28.

i used to know this fact, but have since forgotten  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

thanks for the help, im ready to go now

cheers!
