Advice Please – Any Restrictions To Swapping Dvd Drives?
« on: September 06, 2007, 01:40:00 AM »

Hi

I am now the proud owner of a PAL 360.  I have chipped many Xboxes, and am just catching up with the 360.

It seems, according to one FAQ I have read, that I have a drive that cannot be flashed at this time.

What is stopping me from just swapping the DVD drive I have for the most recommended one?

If this is possible, which is the most recommended please?

If it is not that straight forward, what stuff do I have to look outr for?

In the old days, there was a sheet with model version details on, and it was a case of checking your model against which was the best course of action. Does anything like that exist for the 360 please?

Thank you

First of all tell us what DVD Drive you have.

Also, you can only swap DVD Drive's by getting the original key from the DVD Drive which comes with your Xbox 360.

there's no way to replace a benq drive, and swap it with a iXtreme flashed ms25 or ms28 drive, right? ...since the benq FW cant be dumped?

Thanks...

The BenQ can be flashed/dumped but it is rather tricky. Have a search of these forums. I remember there being a post containing a guide on how to.

You have to solder a switch between a certain trace and a pin on the rom to be able to read the fw.  Not sure on the entire procedure.

You can then use the latest fwtoolbox to get your key and replace with a ms25/ms28, or a hitachi 78FK or less by injecting your key and spoofing the new drive as a benq.

Phillips BenQ
Model No./ VAD6038
MS part number X800474-006
PBDS Part No.: 3B41216029.
