Headache Flashing My 78fk Hitachi Drive
« on: July 10, 2007, 04:08:00 AM »

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to post this so everyone knows the experience I went through to get my Xbox360 flashed with the latest firmware hack (iXtreme 1.2rev2).

First of all I restored it back to the original firmware.  I used the tutorial provided in the new version of Firmware Toolbox 4.0.  Shut down everything and turned on my X360 to see if it was back to original state and it was, couldn't play backups just originals.  I originally had the Extreme v1.6 hacked firmware on there by the way.

Then I went through the whole process of putting drive into Mode B and went into windows and promptly followed the "TUTORIAL FOR NEW INSTALLATIONS (v40-v78)" tutorial provided to the word, (yes I even dumped my original firmware again) and right at the last part where I start flashing the drive with the hacked firmware it jams my system... The bar only reached like 10%, and of course at this moment I think my xbox drive is totally useless. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

After a moment, I noticed that my Hitachi drive was still in Mode B and I decided to bite the bullet and restart JUST my PC not my 360.  Everything loaded back up fine and went for Round two.  Opened my original fw and used the RESTORE open again it thinking that it may have a corrupt fw or whatever... that when fine and then I did smart hack patcher->differential flash patch->detect differences-> start flashing... this time got stuck at about 85%.  Restarted my system.

This time I opened the original fw file and went straight through smart hack patcher->differential flash patch->detect differences-> start flashing and it worked !!  Mind you I did all the things on Textbook's tutorial video exactly as he did them and I even reread his tutorial pdf file.

Can anyone explain why I had such a headache installing this new FW version because the very first one I did which was Extreme v1.6 when smooth without a hitch.  I'm just glad everything worked out in the end.  I guess my only question is: Is one not able to brick Hitachi 78fk using the latest FWToolbox 4.0? Or am I just totally wrong about all of this and is just a freak accident?  Sorry for the long post and thanks for having the patience to read this far.

P.S.  My motherboard that I used is Epox EP-9NPA+ Ultra and the 360 drive was connected straight to the motherboard.

Normally when a PC freezes during the flashing process does that render the Hitachi 78 drive useless?

I never switched off my X360 every time the flash process froze my computer , so I guess technically it was in MobeB all that time, right ?  All I did was restart my computer until the flash completed and didn't freeze my computer.

Please can someone shed some light on the matter... I've been trying to figure this out.  Thanks.
