« on: March 24, 2007, 07:43:00 AM »

Since this subject comes back regularly and that we redo the same discussion again and again. We can focus discussion in this  thread as our official How to use Blaster360/XenoTopGear thread. Any new thread with the usual question on this matter will be moved here.

If the large part of the discussion is here, it will help you find info on similar problems by others and how they resolved it.
-How to install & use for normal play
-How to flash
-How to backup

Blaster 360 And Xeno Top Gear, Discussion Thread
« Reply #1 on: March 24, 2007, 05:03:00 PM »

Hi folks.  I have read through most of the pdf for newbies and I guess I just don't understand what the next move is since the guide wasn't written with the Xeno Top Gear in mind and I cannot find much more than the install docs on the net.

I Have a Hitachi 0047 (gdr-3120L).

Sizes of 360 dumps... I am guessing you need dual layer discs?  +R only?
Does this Top gear take care of putting the drive in mode b for me?
Do you need to have the video cable plugged in the 360 when hooked to the pc? (this would be a pain)
Any PCMCIA Sata cards work to flash Hitachi? This would be great for a latop.
Seems like there are so many utilities out there...How do I know which ones I need?
Is the only usefull feature of hooking the 360 hd up to your pc so you can take files off of it?

Alright, this is enough for now.. :-)  Thanks for any and all help.

Did you check out their official website for the product. I'm assuming since it's a relatively new product that there would be a little more information available on there.

yea I got that ebook too and it doesnt really explain a hell of alot in regards to using the xeno (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
I got it to see the hard drive but I cant get my computer to see the dvd drive

OS: WindowsXP SP2 (latest updates)
Motherboard: Intel D945Psn

360 DVD Drive: Hitachi-LG
Model Number: GDR-3120L
Rom Ver: 0059DJ

I would prefer not to spend money on getting a different motherboard or a different sata controller card if possible.

Sadly enough, used the blaster 360's site to figure out how to use ours....... :-( Sorry Xeno, but that little manual is pathetic...  http://www.team-xecu.../hitachi078.htm    Even though thats for a 78 drive, I figured I could skip the slax part at the beginning since the drive is showing all signs of being in mode B.

I have the same drive as you...

I am successfull in getting windows to see the HD as well as the Hitachi 3120L....
Now I am stuck getting the firmware toolkit to dump the original. It freezes s soon as I say "Raw dump original as"...

The drive seems operational as all get out to me....I stick in a orig game and it autoplay comes up to "play the dvd" etc....

I am stumped.

I am stumped.

Oddly enough, maximus-garyopa read.bat was able to dump the firmware. Then I can open in in the toolkit..

Here's my setup :

Asus a8v Deluxe mobo with VIA VT8237 SATA chipset
Hitachi-LG v47 360 drive
Blaster 360 installed.

So far I've done this :

Installed the Blaster360.
Set On / Off Switch to ON
Set Mode B switch to ON
Connected Blaster to my motherboard and plugged in on of my compters molex plugs to power the Blaster.
Booted to Windows Media Center.
Drive is recognised and given a letter so I tried to flash using Maximus-Garyopa Hitachi-LG Xtreme v2.3 Stealth 8in1 Revision2
Gone to cmd prompt and typed in flash23s.bat e 1234 where e is the drive letter assigned to the Hitachi drive.
I get the error Hitachi drive build could not be detected

Where have I gone wrong ??

Did you confirm that you drive is in modeb,  do you have to press the eject button 2x to get it to open or close?

Is anyone having luck with the blaster 360 ive read nothing but bad post about them.

I installed a Blaster today as well and have already removed it , causing all games to lock up on a 360 that has been flawless . After removing the Blaster all games play perfect again . The design is great but the product is simply not ready for retail yet . Funny thing too is that the e-tailer that it was ordered from less than 5 days ago no longer shows the Blaster on their site (hmmm... you suppose they know something is up) .

Best of Luck to any that attempt the Blaster ,

Found the problem.  My VIA VT8237 SATA chipset doesn't like the Blaster.  It would recognise the Hitachi drive but refused to read or write to it.  I used a mates Sony Vaio to flash it.  Just having problems with games that I had burnt and tested previously now !

Hi,

I installed my Blaster360 yesterday and all I get now when I turn on the 360 (No flashing yet) is part of the 360 Splash screen. Its starts running through then resets itself and starts again ad infinitum. Had it all to bits and checked all connections but its still doing it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Not sure what to do next apart from remove the blaster360 and send it back as faulty.

Just uninstalled the blaster360 and flashed the drive while it was out, reinstalled with blaster disconnected and all working fine. Weird that I could eject the DVD when the blaster was all hooked up but the USB>SATA converter and Birdy flash tool couldnt detect DVD. When it was out it picked it up fine.

Ill replace SATA cables for blaster tommorow.
