Flash A Samsung With A Laptop
« Reply #1 on: March 20, 2007, 07:04:00 AM »

There is Enough of a problem flashing them with a PC. Let alone a laptop with a bunch or propriatary hardware.

IF you want to try, I would get a SATA PCMI Card, and use your 360 for power. B/c you can't get a molex (4 pin) connector from a laptop.

Now the next problem is grounding to the laptop. The case is good a PC, No Clue on a laptop. Somewhere around the fan I would think, might be grounded.

That would be the Start.

Let us know what ya come up with ;-)

If you can find an sata card with a via chipset for your laptop than you can likely flash a sammy with it. Most of the laptop cards have SI chipsets though...

Ms28 pretty sure not, because there is only one card with a via6421 and there are never any stock anywhere.

Ms25, you can try a pcmcia SATA card, does not seem to be a great success

usb to SATA does not seem to work.

which version you have 25 or 28?

But sosotiit, you have flashed ms25 drive with a sata pcmia card?

no, but pretty sure  uhh.gif  I have read about it. I do all my stuff on a desktop, sorry.

Edit: Hey, found the info I was looking for and it is not good news. In fact, the  thread I was thinking of was about someone wanting to find a via6421 card to test on a ms25 and ms28.

The reality is that a large part of the  pcmcia SATA card are using SIL3112/32 chipset, and that is not the best friend of the samsung. For the few that are not SIL base, you have to be sure that it will work under DOS which is not guaranteed.

The more I look at it,  samsung flashing on a laptop is not a go.

Yes Samsung only NOT HITACHI. I have a ms28 that i have already flashed with desktop PC. I just need to be portable makes life easier when i just carry a laptop.

But sosotiit, you have flashed ms25 drive with a sata pcmia card?

Want someone to confirm that I understand this correctly:  I cannot insert the key from my old HITACHI into a new one using a laptop?

Thanks.

No You've got it wrong.

Hitachi Drives are flashed in windows so  a simple usb to sata lead
will allow you to flash hitachi's with your laptop.

This thread is about samsungs however, and these could be done
with a laptop that has a via chipset with onboard sata, but only if
you are willing to make some modifications to your laptop.

I.E. making a sata pass-through connection similar to ones people
have made to their 360's to allow them to flash their 360's.

Seeing as laptops are fragile I can't see anyone doing this sort
of mod soon.

Can I flash my drive with my laptop
  1. Hitachi drive (up to v59): Yes, some SATA/USB adapters (Like Team Xecuter USB adapter) will allow you to flash your drive.
  2. Hitachi drive (v78): Not possible with the current tools. Note that SATA/USB adapters do not function for the v78.
  3. Samsung: No.  Note that there is one (or very few)  Via6421 PCMCIA card on the market but there is no availability and no report if someone ever tested it on a X360 Drive.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start changing the focus of a thread.  I've been reading things for 3+ hours trying to get things figured out, but sometimes I either forget what I read, or miss something along the way.  Thanks for pointing that out to me soso.  I appreciate your friendliness.  smile.gif
