I had the exact same problem the other day. I found out it was my wireless router causing all the problems.

Yeah, if you have anything running at 2.4GHz (phones, routers, other transmitters) they could cause problems.

Apparently they weren't meant to cause issues, but they can still be a problem

Remember what hapenned with WalMart?
Wirless controllers in 360 kiosks were interferring with their price checker (I think price checkers) so they had to switch to wired.  I believe previously they were using wireless controllers with play and charge kits.

Did you try the resynching procedure??  (Press the little white button the the xbox and the controller) The wireless controllers should sweep the 2.4ghz band until it finds a clean channel without interference.

I would look up which channels that wireless controller uses. If your router is occpying the channel that your controller is using it will cause interference. You can simply change the channel on the router by entering 192.168.1.1 entering admin as the pass and changing the channel in the setup. I've had this issue once but it helped me by resynching, but I don't have a wirelss router.
