dolby digital and dts ...check to see if your audio receiver can play this...alot cant take dts...if you dont play audio through receiver and only through tv then ignore these...this is for theater sound and 5.1 dolby digital surround but ur receiver has to be able to handle it  <

Thanks for the reply...

I do have an AV receiver capable of Dolby Digital and DTS and the xbox is connected via the Advanced Scart lead with a fibre optic cable to one of the receiver's digital inputs.

Still don't know what these options do tho!

If you can shed any light on the subject - I'd be really grateful.

Thanks

Enable dd and dts in msdash.

Then you can get 5.1 surround with dvd´s in xbmc instead of only stereo...  <

Hi

Have done this and do get Dolby Digital and DTS through XBMC.

Was just really wanting to know what these options did in xbmc tho.

Thanks

Hi

Does Passthrough mean pass the audio straight to the AV Receiver rather than trying to do something with it in the xbox itself??

Sorry to be a pain - but I want to know what those damn audio options mean!!

I have set up DD and DTS output in MS dash - but want to know which options should be set in XBMC for best audio output.

Thanks again

HoWsK, that's right. Passthrough means it passes it along untouched, thus resulting in better sound quality.

Thanks Morien

So I guess I should have all 3 options set to on yes??

i.e: Output to all speakers ON, DD/DTS Passthrough ON and Dolby Surround Passthrough ON

Thanks for clearing this one up for me  :P

the output to all speakers will take any audio that is stereo sound and not dd or dts and put it in all channels resulting in digital sound..some people prefer this..If you dont have a 5.1 setup then these shouldnt matter either..you gotta have center channel speaker and rears also...sounds like you havent thought this far through...  <

OK - so I have an AV Receiver with a digital input and 5.1 surround sound speakers.

I'll set both passthrough options to ON
and turn off the option to output to all speakers so I hear stereo tracks as originally recorded.

Thanks everyone for the replies  <

does the "Output to all Speakers" option have any effect on DD/DTS audio assuming you have both "Passthrough"s enabled, or does it only effect regular 2 channel stereo?

i want DD/DTS audio to be processed by my receiver and played as intended, but don't mind if regular 2 chan stereo plays out of all speakers  :P

Personally I leave the 'output to all speakers' off.  If you are using an av receiver that supports DD and DTS, chances are that it also supports Pro Logic 1/2.

Pro logic will convert a stereo source into a much more convincing surround sound than simply playing identical sound out of all five speakers (which I find gets tiring after a short period of time).

As to whether it affects DD/DTS, I cant remember because I never have it on!  <
