Hey
Like the PC HDD, space isn't exactly 'what it says on the tin'
20GB of our space is 12GB of MSs!
I have always wondered why they don't just use a larger drive and give us a full disks GB capacity??

u have to remember that there is an OS on there, a dashboard, all the backwards compatability software, etc.
while i dont see how that adds up to 8GB it does take up some space. but the drive itself is a 20gb so they werent lying.

If I am not mistaken the OS and the Dashboard would be the same thing, neither of which in the Xbox 360's case are stored on the hard drive.
