My Xbox Scratched My New Game.
« on: February 13, 2006, 10:12:00 PM »

I just got my xbox 360 two days ago. I was playing COD 2 when it froze. Not thinking, I stood it up to let it circulate air and it scratched the hell out of my CD. Now everytime I am playing it it freezes at the same spot. I just don't know if it's because of the scratches or if it's the XBOX. Do you think if I tell the place that I bought it what happened that they will let me return the game?

not to be mean but dont blame this on the xbox its your fault do not stand the xbox up while a disc is in the drive spinning this has been posted time and time again. and call m$ last i remember they were giving new disc for the scratched ones. Better yet if you baught it from a loacal stor they will prob exchange it for you as long as you have the receipt

No...don't say this and don't do this.  This only promotes stupidity.  The manual clearly says don't move the damn thing while it's on.  Thousands of posts have been read here where people have scratched discs because they moved the 360 while it was on...of course this was around November 22.
Save your money, just read the manual cover to cover.  It is not that thick.  Use the console as directed an all will be fine.

DO NOT MOVE YOUR XBOX 360 WHILE IT IS ON.  TURN IT COMPLETELY OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW SECONDS TO BE SAFE.

i had a disk do that by just bumping my 360, i took the game back and said the magnetic alarm strip was on the disk and i didnt notice it and it caused it to scratch. they exchanged it no problem(i have really had them on the bottom of dvds)

I wouldnt go as far as saying it promotes stupidity. Why not try and protect your investment? Discs get damaged all the time, a d_skin will only prevent it from happening.

I know what the manual says. Apparently, it seems I'm one of the few people that bothered to read it, but buying something to protect a freakin disc that cost me 60 bucks seems like a smart thing to do IMO.
Just bumping into the piece of shit will cause it to scratch the disc. Things happen no matter what you do to try to prevent it. D_skins provide some added security.

Sorry for the delayed response and I appriciate all of the help. I did read everything that came with the xbox and as soon as I heard the scratching sound I remembered real quick what it said. It was my fault but I will be returning the game.

Sorry but those d-skins might save your discs from stupidity scratches but it will also shorten the lifespan of your drive's laser as it has to work harder to read through the d-skin. Not to mention it will make the drive LOUDER then it already is trying to manage the extra disc weight and laser movements.

Besides what made you think the 360 cools better in the vertical position?

just get a disk-resurfaceer like the skip doctor, or polish the shiny side with some toothpaste.

Oh, if you choose to use the tooth paste/mild abrasive method, be careful to use a lint free cloth, otherwise youll just do more damage.

Games just dont do that themselves.  Does anyone else play it besides you, or possibly could have played around with it?  You dont need to swear so much to get your point accross, so lame  rolleyes.gif

Yeah accidents happen.

My PDZ had some really small scratchs in the, um, 'circular' style, even though I havent moved my console since buying it. The game still works fine, must have had a bump or something. Bit of a piss off, but what can ya do?

omg fuck, its totally lame to do the cliche "don't swear" with the rolleyes. It's called frustration and I am full of it.

No, I didn't do anything and yes the game scratched itself or was scratched to begin with. It's always been horizontal, never been moved with a game inside or ejected while the disc was spinning.

icp sucks anyways.
