Password Protecting A Smb Share
« on: July 19, 2004, 04:23:00 PM »

Can anyone tell me if XBMC can prompt the user for a password to enter a SMB share.

For example:

I have a share to my desktop PC that contains some XXX movies. I would like the ability to setup a password of some kind so that when the XXX link it selected in the XBMC, you would have to enter a password to get into it to see the contents. I have a user name and password set up for the samba share itself, but this is what it is in the XMBC XML file in order to access it.

Thanks
Blade

XBMC cant do that at the moment, all the user and pass are placed in the xml...I would do this, set up a 2nd XBMC that has links to the SMB share. There is an app around on xbins that allows you setup a password to laucnh an app.  Make one XBMC available to all and the other XBMC has to be accessed thru the password program.  Sorry Im not sure of the name of the app...just read around the software section off the main xbox-scene.com page to find out what it is.
