Err, somebody please show me up if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure 1080i is going to give you smoother gameplay and 720p is going to give you the crisper image.

now, someone correct me if i'm wrong but.. i believe that it isn't true 1080i, but merely an upconverted 540i signal.

actually the 720p is better than the 1080i. The difference is the progressive versus the interlaced.

The 1080i is apparently converted from the 720p, but I would not call it an "up-conversion"

A big thing that bears importance in gameplay is framerate. 1080i is 30 fps (frames per second) while 720p is 60 fps. More frames per second=smoother gameplay to my understanding.

BTW, I'll be curious to see how you like that TV. I have heard some bad things about it's geometry, and I considered getting it until I read all that. Keep us posted on it's performance.

1080p (Progressive) is where you'll see a difference, however like mantioned 1080i (Interlaced) is what's supported. In this case - 720p is best, in my opinion, and technically, I believe. Some will disagree, but it's up to your personal perception.

I like 720p over 1080i. But that was till I got the VGA adapter and now I like using my LCD TV native 1280X768 resolution.
