Will The X360 Suck On My Tv?
« on: August 08, 2005, 04:43:00 PM »

I have a say 3 to 3 1/2 year old 20 inch TV (not plasma, not HDTV). Will the 360 experience be any good, or will I really really need an update? Thanks.

it will be substantially better than current gen, but it will be even better than THAT with HD...

Having game in HD and playing on a non HD set works to your benefit too because the image is scaled down you'll probably never ever see a single jaggy, you'll still be getting more detail than you would with a normally 480i game too.

One thing that might suck (depending on your preference) is you'll probably see a lot of games in letterbox. I personally play my games in letterbox anyway so...

Does your tv have composite a/v jacks?  I bought mine about three years ago and run component when I can.  It looks awesome.

In fact, I'm just about to hook my HTPC up to it via component.

it wont suck on ANY TV...

But if you don't have HD 720p or 1080i your picture quality could be a lot better than it is.

If you have a 19" monitor go play a PC game fullscreen at 640x480.. then up the resolution to 1280x1024

that is LITERALLY the difference between your non-HDTV and an HDTV.

Except 640x480 probably looks better on the monitor than it does on your TV  laugh.gif

Play it on your monitor if it has a VGA input. It will look better.

I will be playing on a 19" monitor because I don't have the money right now for a giant HD TV. I'm still figuring out how I'm going to deal with the sound because I don't have a 5.1 set up. sad.gif

How good something looks on a screen is usually dictated by the screen itself.

That say... just about anything you watch on your TV will look better on a 19" monitor... DVDs, Current Gen Console, Next Gen Consoles, etc.

By the way C-C-C-unit, Animated sig's aren't allowed so you might want to change it before a mod does it for you. smile.gif
