Problem Turning On My 360
« on: January 02, 2006, 06:09:00 PM »

I have one problem with my new Xbox 360. Over the past week (since getting my system) I have searched the internet for someone with a similar problem, but I have found none. First off I do want to state that this problem has occured since day one, the first time I "tried" to turn on my 360.

Problem: To turn on my 360 I originally held in the middle "x" on my wireless controller. The controller would turn on and the 360 console would go into a sort of standby mode (ie: only the power icon on the console would light up, the ring wouldn't search for a controller or anything it would just sit there. Also, no audio or video would show up on my TV.) What I found out I had to do was use the power button on the console and turn it off. (Which would turn off the controller and the console.) Then I would have to do the exact same thing again (pressing the "x" on the wireless controller) and the system will easily start: audio, video, ect. Searching a bit on the internet on exactly how to turn on the system I found on a site that it said to "hold in the start button on the wireless controller". So, I tried that...but to no aval, I still have to power-down the console and either use the start button or the middle "x" a second time to actually start the system.

UPDATE

Today I finally got around to calling Xbox's tech support phone number. After doing so I am still not any farther along in knowing whats wrong with my 360 than before I called. I told the guy my problem (and after repeating it to him 3 times because for some reason he couldn't understand what I was meaning), he quickly came to the conclusion that I "had too much stuff on my Xbox 360, and to unplug it for an hour and try again". Then I explained to him that my system had been doing this since I bought it (the first time I ever turned it on) and he said once again, "ummm well just unplug it", then he hung up.

Am I seriously the only person on the frickin' planet that has this problem? There has to be somebody out there that knows whats wrong with my Xbox 360....please help....

PS: Xbox Tech Support needs to get better phone operators, hanging up on me is really really childish, all he had to say was he didn't know what was wrong.

Yeah the tech support  blows. I think you should call again, and explain this problem is unacceptable and they need to fix it. It will be a hassle but it's better then having a defective system forever. Its going to a while before enough people have messed with the console and through trial and error learn more about the console. We still barely know anything about it, but I'm sure we are advancing more and more each day.

I have the same problem.  I called tech support and the guy seems to think it's the video cable.  I was told that if it happens again to call back and they'll replace my video cable.  I'm not convinced that it's the problem though.  So, I'll wait til tomorrow morning after the console has been off for more than 3 hours and it doesn't display on my TV and then call tech support and have them send me a cable! sad.gif

Just in case anyone is following this thread, I just got off the phone w/ xbox cust. support and they are having me send it in for repair.  I'll post back after they've returned it to let you know how it went.

They ended up replacing my console.  So, anyone w/ a similar problem, I suggest you call MS about it, they should have you send it in for repair.  Expect to have it replaced.
