Hitachi Drive Dying?
« on: April 20, 2008, 07:38:00 PM »

So, my xbox was flashed and I was running backups fine up to a few weeks ago when some backups were giving me "unreadable disk" errors. For the most part, the backups worked flawlessly and never jammed or anything. Today, I turn on my 360 and the xbox just freezes at a white screen with a 360, all white startup screen. Disks don't read immediately and only some retail disks work. And then, I get the RRod. I waited a few hours and then it started up fine and I could play a retail disk again.

Is it the dvd drive's laser or something more? Thanks

A bad laser has nothing to do with freezing and the RRoD. That 360 is on it's way to locking up for good sooner or later. Look into doing one of the X-clamp replacement mods or having it reflowed to try and keep it going. After that is ya still have disc reading issues a new laser would be something to look into, but it's not the cause of the issues you're having now.

Thanks...I'll take your experience over mine.
