Xbox Source about 'Newton' Motion Sensing Controller
« Reply #15 on: February 03, 2020, 12:25:00 AM »

You know, up until now most people did not even realize that Nintendo licensed this tech from Gyration.
All Nintendo did was raise awareness for it via the Wii's popularity and Gyration stands to be a big winner.
M$ recognizes the popularity of said tech and decides to license it. Business as usual.

People can say all they want about M$  copying Nintendo but if Nintendo did not invent it then shame on them for banking the success of their console on a technology that everyone and their mother could license.

Maybe you're posting on the wrong message board?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)  I dunno what conversation you're having but nobody's saying that Nintendo invented Gyration's technology.  Maybe you're misunderstanding all the people saying that Microsoft's prototype according to the rumors is in the same configuration as Nintendo's Wiimote.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

The Gyration technology is used in many appliances and laptops, but Microsoft's alleged prototype is the only one that rips off Nintendo's Wiimote design.  Gyration did not create the Wiimote configuration, Nintendo did, using Gyration's technology.  Microsoft just took all the same ingredients Nintendo did and baked them in the same way.  That's how they're ripping off Nintendo.  Neither company is ripping off Gyration.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I'm posting on the wrong message board? If you look at this very thread, I was not the only one to
use the word "invent".   Why single me out? For a guy that just recently joined this message board, you
sure seem to forget that this IS an Xbox message board. People around here tend to deffend M$ so perhaps it is you posting on the wrong message board.

So your argument is that this "alleged prototype" rips off Nintendo's wiimote design, even though the
technology is available for anyone to license.

Well let me ask you this. TV remote controls all look pretty much the same, don't they? Console gamepads
have pretty much the same design, don't they?  How much different is M$'s version of this 'IR pointer' type of remote supposed to be for YOU not to consider it a ripoff?? Ofcourse it's going to look similar, but with with their own added touch. In fact, Gameinformer reports that Sony is also creating
a new controller code named the "waggle", allegedly a wiimote minus the IR pointer.

Nintendo licensed a technology and put it pretty much in a TV remote style encasing so you can use with one hand. How can any other company license the same technology and make the remote much different for gaming?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
