How was the X-Clamp fix done?  Was it using RBJ's method (Mark 1 or Mark 3?).  What I've noticed when doing the Mark 1 repair (bolts go all the way through GPU heatsink and nuts are placed on top) is that after so much use, the nuts naturally want to loosen a bit, removing pressure from the GPU.  That in turn can cause the 3LROD.  I'd go back, make sure the motherboard is properly shimmed (no movement of motherboard with slight downward pressure is placed on it), make sure all of the nuts are evenly tightened, and then if necessary, unplug the rear fan and let it run until the console gives the 2-Light error (overheating).  Unplug it, tighten the nuts a bit more (they won't be as tight as they were before overheating) and let it set overnight.

I've never done the "3-penny" fix, so I don't know if this could be causing your issue or not.

I don't have the fix on for this Xbox.

You see, in the past, I have three Xbox 360s.  I bought them all from ebay broken with the 3ROL error.

I used lawdawg's on all three.  However, after the first one failed using lawdawg's and failed permanently after pennies, I decided to swtich the other two to rbjtech's.

However, I couldn't get the MKIII to work.  In fact, after assembly, both Xboxes went to 3ROL with MKIII, so I went back to lawdawg's which worked fine.

Now, I'm having an error with one of them again.

Hi All,

All X-clamp mods are only a hit/miss fix and at best a temporary fix, if it works for you then thats great but its not permanent.

The only sure way is to reflow both sides of the board using a professional SMT rework system.

I wish it was as easy to get rid of the issue by just applying these mods, but its not and i do not mean to rain on anyones fire by saying this.

Good Luck.......!

Ok, so who do you recommend this to reflow in the USA?

grim(moderator) or someone like xbox360pros (bojingles)?

Or should I just try heatgunning it?

Hi,

I live in the UK, however it might be worthwhile getting in contact with some local PCB manufactoring companies that specialize in SMT (Surface Mounted) technology in your area to see if they would under take the work or post a new thread asking for assistance with regards to who has a pro rework system.

The main reason for doing this instead of undertaking the work yourself is that you need to have a monitored constant temp for the rework tool and the mainboard itself for it to be a success, as you don't want to overheat the board or any its components as this would lead to more problems.

I personally would not undertake the work the work myself purely for the reason above, it needs to be done in a specialist enviroment with the correct tools, this is just my opinion.

On the other hand you have to way up the cost implication as well of repair versus replacement, repair it and see if it goes full term or buy a new one and have it covered by warranty.

Sell faulty console = approx $100
New arcade console = approx $279 - With warranty

Get it repaired = $0 - $100+ - No warranty, no guarantee on shelf life after

So in short $179 gets you a new console, new warranty and you get your sanity back...lol

I personally would buy a new one or keep it and mod it.....!

I have 3 consoles - 1 for modding, 1 that has RROD, 1 unmodded for online.

The choice is yours....!

Sorry for the long post....!
