Fixed one last week with same error. X-clamp and unplugged fans to over heat. Screwed tightend screws while hot (not TOO Tight). Did fan hood mod to split fans.

It resurrected an E-74 360 that I thought was gone into 360 heaven....  And that 360 is still going strong today..

I'm trying to to hijack but I need help with an E74 as well. Trouble is, it only ever happens on startup from cold. One reboot sorts it out usually, and it will always boot eventually.  It pisses me off no end though, I like to boot from the controller or remote. Anyone know an easy fix?

We cant really help you if you dont tell us the secondary error code as we can only barely assume whats up
The X-Clamp replacement and new thermal compound might fix it as it sounds like the usual stuff
Cooling mods are recommended

Hey all! New to the forum but I can see a lot of people having the same problem as me with the E 74. Seems like it is the most common system error second only to the red rings of death. I did the sync up/eject button diagnostic and came up with 1022...AV cable or encoder chip. I have 3 different cables and tried them all so I know it's not that. What I'm trying to find out is, is the common fault with these chips the same as with the 3 rings where the soldering comes loose or is it a failure in the chip itself?

I spoke with a guy at the local gamer's store and he mentioned doing the towel wrap and getting the system hot. Thing is, like I said before I am not sure if it is a solder issue. Also, if you are heating up the solder for one chip, you are most likely heating it up for all the surrounding chips and this could bite you in the arse later by loosening those up.

I'm not even sure which chip is the encoder. It has been suggested it is the one marked Ana. If I could determine what chip it is and if it's simply a soldering issue, I would attempt to heat up the one chip's solder.

So in a nutshell, does anyone know which chip is the encoder and is it a loose solder problem? Thank you!

This is the ana chip
IPB Image

Here is a larger version where you can see where it is located on the mainboard

In 360s which have got the hdmi port you will find an "HANA" chip which is the HD version of the scaler chip...
