Greetings to our old friends and colleagues and a Happy New Year

It has been an awful long time since we have shown any activity in the scene and the break has been much needed after a solid 6 years working at the top level.

It's really great to see a thriving 360 community although our wish is still to have a fully working homebrew solution on RETAIL machines in 2008. We have friends in the scene who have done some really amazing things with a 360 dev machine in the last year, hopefully that can be transferred to the retail unit this year. There are no sleeping dogs so who knows what will happen ?

Anyway, I got my first 360 ROD brick over Christmas so instead of sending it back to M$ I took it apart to fix. I have come up with a very simple, very cheap and very effective quick-fix solution to most ROD problem machines. I have so far tested the method on 18 Xbox's and every one is still up and running (much to my surprise I might add - the older versions of this console are junk). It's Chinese New Year at the moment so as soon as we are all done i will get it packaged up and shipped out to the usual stockists. Hopefully it can work for you

The kit will include both T10 and T8 screwdrivers and the prices are as follows (1 Kit Per Xbox 360):
1 Kit $12.95 each
10 Kits $11.95 each
50 Kits $9.95 each
100 Kits $8.95 each

You know what it is going to be. It's going to be a complete scam. Anyone can go get all of it at any hardware store for less than $5.

8 5x12mm bolts
24 5mm washers
probably a tiny bit of thermal paste
maybe some pads for the ram

Hopefully this will be a lot different and more effective than all of the cheap solutions that never seem to work for long enough.

I thought the real problem with the RROD was due to the crappy soldering job/manufacturing process of the BGAs onto the board.  When it heats and cools, the bad solder joints eventually break.  Better cooling and better manufacturing/oven flow techniques would reduce the problem.  Clamps are probably only a temp fix.  Although, I haven't had a RROD problem yet....  I was thinking if I had that problem, I'd put a butane torch to the sides of the CPU and pray for a good solder joint (and not a burned-up CPU/GPU).   biggrin.gif

a 13 bucks kit can solve the RROD problem?  they should reveal the details of the kit not only the prices.

thili55 - scam!?, its 12 bucks...

I had a RROD on my old 360 around 6 months ago, I spent over 20 dollars (parts from LOWES and artic 5 thermal paste), and what was my reward......it still RROD 360.     so the whole "x clamp fix" only pissed me off.

I'm curious to see what is in this kit.   Although I do think its a bit......odd, that they are going to mass produce this kit, because it "to his amazement", fixed 18 xbox 360's.....try it on at least a hundred before you go turning out thousands of these kits...

The price of this kit pretty much gives it away. Its not going to fix a damn thing.

I find it halarious that anyone could try to make money of a ROD fix. There isn't and really never will be a perminant solution for it. (yep, I said it)  Trying to profit from something that isn't possible (ooh there I said it again) is just going to drag their reputation through the mud.

I wonder if they have a fix for stupid while their at it. I'm sure that wouldn't be a very expensive fix to sell to the mass's either.

The xclamp fix does work.
I have fixed 3 RLOD with this method over 9 months ago and they are still going strong.

Heres what is probably in the kit...

im absolutely positive that this just a x-clamp repair kit. look at the price, its pretty close to what the parts cost if you would just go out to Lowes and buy them yourself (and it would be cheaper if you did.) also he mentions that his box rrod'ed on him past Christmas. i bet he checked hear or on some other forum and found the x-clamp fix did it and got his to work. than he thought to himself "hmmm maybe i should sell this as kits." and now he is and to make people believe that this fix work he made a magic number like 20 added xbox 360 in front of it and now he has (or think) he has a reliable number to proclaim a success rate. whats even more sad is that he is probably going to take credit for this fix even though the fix was created a long time ago. give me a break. mad.gif

of course this is all speculation and opinion. but we will soon find out once the kits are released. until than i stand by my words.

9 months ago? still going strong?  lucky you! i don't really believe you.

i also did a x-clamp fix exactly as the instructions describe.  at first i was enlighted that my old 360 came back to life. It worked flawless for 1 or 2 months and than presented me the f****ng RROD again grr.gif

so.. i agree to Murc and Bubbalynch.    de x-clamp fix is NOT permanent!  it a waste of money for the kit (so don't buy it)
