Xbox 360 Freezing After X-clamp Fix (rbjtech Method).
« on: February 10, 2008, 06:40:00 AM »

My xbox died the 1st time about half a year ago. I did the x-clamp fix (rbjtech method) without the shim - it worked for 5 months and I got the 3 lods again.

Now I did the x-clamp with the shim (a small aluminium shard 2cm x 1cm 1mm thick) and the result is partially good. Now I can boot my console, play from 30min - 2 hours (depends) and it freezes.

I have stock fans, xcm addon fan, I've cut the metal mesh behind the stock fans and I have the shroud divider.

My question is - is there a way to fix the freezing issue?
Is it because the CPU or GPU?
Is the xbox overheating? (cuz I though it might be because the thermal paste [forgot I use Arctic Silver] on the CPU/GPU melted and went over the whole square?)

Sorry for my bad english/spelling.

Cheers.

you could try the eraser trick.

I had that problem also, but it was like 30 minutes into the game it would freeze.

I had already done the x clamp fix so i decided if i did another fix it should help.

I opened it up put the 4 erasers onto the chips on the back, and then re-assembled it,

After that i baked it (letting ti overheat while fans are not attached) for about 2 minutes then i let it cool down. i put it back together and it has been going strong for like 7 months now.

Also do the fan hood mod. It is simple and takes about 5 minutes to do.

Yeah I did the fan shroud modding.
Also tried to clear the cache etc.

Is the eraser trick safe? Well I don't wanna kill my xbox.
Any other thoughs? If not I'll try the eraser fix :/

Oh I forgot I used 4x  1mm washers under the motherboard, 3 washers on the GPU (cuz of the shim) 1 washer on the CPU.

So if my motherboard is on 4 washers should I use 4mm rubber/aluminium block or 4,5/5mm?

Sorry for multi-replaying to my own thread.

I'm thinking about using these heatsink instead of rubber. They're 13x13mm 4mmthick (Ram is 13x10mm)... is it a good idea?
