Samsonator, I'm sorry to say that you are incorrect. Very incorrect. Different FTP server software will not cause speed problems. It may have in your case, but what says that you weren't walking around the room and accidentally moved one of the cables that's causing the problem? Now, some of those pieces of ftp server software could have demo stuff in them that will not allow higher speeds until you register, or even client connection bandwidth limiters, but by default, limiters should be turned off.

I remember back in the day when I had my computer connected to my dad's computer via a coax cable between 2 rooms. yeah, 2meg a second. My dad used serv-u on his computer and I would connect to it, and would get full speeds at around 2 meg. I used serv-u about 2 years ago, and had no problem getting full speed transfers.

Also, why don't you just use the FTP server that's built into windows? That is, if you're using windows 2000 or XP. It's built right in. Internet Information Services. Best ftp server you can get for free.

Now if you ask me it sounds like you've found a step that has changed the speed of your connection. So the question is, when you switched to wireless, what items did you eliminate in the path from your PC to your xbox? I guarantee you that one of those items is causing your slowdown.

Like I said to everyone before, it's all about the process of elimination. Eliminate every item that could potentially be the problem.

These connection speeds seem slow to me.

Xbox to PC I'm getting around 7-8 meg a second. (FlashFXP)
Xbox to Xbox is around 10.5 meg a second. (Avalaunch)

I'd be gutted if I were only getting 0.5 - 1.0 meg a sec.

Are the speeds I'm getting not more feasable?

i have this exact same problem. slow uploads (pc to xbox) and fast normal downloads (xbox to pc). this occurs with both my built-in LAN (3com) and my PCI card (linksys). i've tried smartftp, core FTP lite, flashfxp, cuteftp...and they all do the same thing. i then tried my laptop that has an intel pro/1000 MT and it transfers to the xbox at full speed (transfered a 700mb file in minutes) and with the same program/crossover cable that i used with my desktop! this is so frustrating..ARGH

so it's pretty obvious that the problem is most likely the PC and NOT the xbox. maybe the xboxes like intel lan chips (or the settings associated with them) better?

well i had also tried all the ftp clients i can get my hands on , and no luck with any of them.
i then tried Qwix 101 and it worked like a charm , its a xbox program which alows you to manage your games on your xbox and iso file uploads , not the greatest speeds but its normaly at about 7meg a sec.
give it a try and see if its better for you like that.

i to have had the same problem as everyone, uploading to xbox really slow, starting at around 350k/s, then going down to 0k/s.  I to have tried everything, different network cards, different ftp's, the works.  I did have it working fine in the past.

I got fed up and formatted my computer.   I re-installed WinXP Pro, MoBo drivers, SP1 and SP2.  Then i installed flashfxp (which previously used to crash).  I disabled passive mode, and tried to transfer 9meg/s!!!!!!!!!  Seems like the format did the trick.

I then continued installing software, Office, email, browsers etc.  Then i installed Zone Alarm.  I then repeated my Flashfxp experiment.  Back to slow speeds and crashing flashfxp.  Disabled (closed) zonealarm, still no better.  Uninstalled zonealarm. Restarted computer.  Tried FTP again, back to 9meg/s!!!
So even with zone alarm turned off it was still interfering, it needed to be uninstalled.

I hope this helps some of you other guys.  Post your results.
For the record windows firewall is currently on, and ftp is working fine with it, i know its not the best firewall, but it'll do till i test some more.

I used Zone Alarm but had used it before with no problems.  Then I got a new crystal and the speeds slowed right down, then stopped.  Needless to say I sold that xbox and got another.  It all worked fine.

I put it down to a gay xbox.  But I never had a prob with zone alarm interfering with Flash fxp although that is what it sounds like for you.

I had the same slow upload, but a very fast download. The problem was when i used QWIX,
the download would stall and nothing would happen for minutes at a time. And the upload
speed would be only 2.3K, well that's crazy. But, when reading on my xbos that it was only
using half duplex. What i did to fix the situation, and it was probably tried here form many
users, is that i changed my computer nic to "autosense" and that fixed both my upload and download, it takes me 4 mintues to downlad a 3gb file to my xbox. And the upload is also that fast.
i have an xbox 1.0 with a crossover cable about 100ft in length.

hey, i had it on 100 base tx full duplex. to change the setting of you NIC you have to be in device manger  and in the network adapters, make sure you pick the right nic, because
i have 2 , if i change the one with my internet to auto sense it  works very slow. anyway in the advanced tab on your nic, change it to auto sense, when i did this the xbox turned 100 full duplex.

deadnburied, try these suggestions from my guide:
6. Try different hardware... don't overlook this! For example, if you have a hub, try a new one or better yet get a switch.
7. If you are using FlashFXP (or maybe try this with any client), some forum posts have suggested that by changing the transfer packet size from 4096 to 2048 you could see a speed increase. Some people run fine at 4096 but I know of at least one instance where changing this value to 2048 has helped tremendously.
8. Suggestions from ILLusionsOfGrander member on xbox-scene:
a. Make sure the NIC on your PC is not just a 10 mbit NIC but a 10/100 mbit NIC. Using a 10/100 NIC as opposed to just a 10 can definitely increase transfer rates.
b. If you go into the advanced settings of the NIC in your PC, some cards have a "Early TX Threshold" value. Upping this value from its default can also increase speeds. The example given was with a Dlink card and its default value was 8 and changed to 38. This increased the speed from 6500kBps to 11000kBps.

Also try connecting xbox to that pc via a crossover cable and post an ipconfig /all from that pc that gets the slowdowns.
