Make sure passive mode isn't enabled in your ftp program settings.

Wow, that's pretty thorough. However, I have one question. What about transfering between your PC and your laptop? Yeah, I know you probably don't have an ftp server on either computer, but you definitely know if something is transferring fast or slow.

I would also play with the PASV setting, although I don't agree that it needs to be off. I've seen it go either way.

Linksys router makes no difference cause it's not routing traffic. it's just switching traffic.

Also, seriously, check how fragmented your drive is. In this case I really don't think that's what it is cause it stops eventually. fragmentation would make it slow, and fluxuating.

hmmm.... that's all I can really think of for now.

Cross over cable would work if it were from PC / Laptop to xbox. No router etc.

I was having the exact same problem with my 1.6 crystal xbox. Wasn't the pc at all as it worked fine for my 1.1 and my mates 1.3.

Never managed to fix the problem with the 1.6 so I just punted it and got a new one, (gotta love ebay).

Anyway, someone had suggested a loose D0 connection with the chip... Not sure if that'll do it but might be a last resort if all else fails.

One more thing, have you tried xbox to xbox transfers?

Uh oh, the fact that you have an AMD chip will definitely make a difference. They're pieces of shit.... (haha... just kidding)

I agree with going out and buying a new NIC. But it's also important that you try to transfer files insome other way to try and eliminate pieces of hardware that it could be.

Havent tried using FTP between the Laptop and PC as it's part of the same Network with network shares etc enabled.

Anybody else with any further suggestions?

How long is your cable? over 15m the speed really drops. Are you going through a router? Try going stight from xbox to pc with a short crossover cable. Dont worry about getting a gigabit adapter due to no gigabit on xbox.
Ive had this issue with going through one or more pcs and long cables. Also home made cables never carry out to well.
Lastly. I have noticed that when you have a router hooked up and passing through, it kills the speed by about 500kbs to 1000kbs.

i have the exact same problem. my transfer speed starts out at about 250 kbps then exponentially decays down to nothing. really wierd. i can transfer from my laptop just fine (a mac), but my windows box is acting screwy. i'm using smartFTP on windows and tranmit on mac, but i don't think this is the difference, or indicative of the problem. i've used connections through a network switch and a crossover cable and it doesn't make any difference. i have an asus A7N8X motherboard with two built in ethernet ports, and both behave the same. also the problem is the same with both the evox and xbmc ftp servers

i am also having slow ftp transfers my xbox and pc are connected to a linksys hub.

I use to be under another lan with a router and many other computers and it use to go up to 8 megs..not very good but it was ok for me.

Does everyone who gets a normal ftp speed have a router connected?

I'm just going to throw in my 2 cents. I have an X3 modded v1.6 with the stock drive in it and I can pull data from my xbox to my computer at normal 100mb/s speeds but as soon as I try to send I will average about 2 kb/s. Its really weird. This is using flashfxp for the ftp program. I've tried the settings for passive, but no luck. Will try some other stuff later.

OK, it seems that the FAT was corrupt on my system. I had to redo my box and reformat. C and E were fine, but f was all f'd up (only f, g was fine). hope this help the comm.
