Manually Boot Discs With Hand 78fk
« on: December 29, 2007, 05:48:00 PM »

Ok my drive stopped working properly a few months back. It would start making violent noises when trying to boot a game and if I left it long enough it would actually damage the disc by hitting the top of the case. I've only left one disc long enough to damage it, it was DOA4 so I didn't really care (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

The noise it started making while damaging the disc was the same noise in this video but a lot longer and louder, but it was just sitting in the same spot the entire time. http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/video/Xbox-360-Scratch-Disks3.wmv

I tried applying various types of fame tape fixes but the disc still won't boot, it won't damage the disc but it still won't boot. It makes a less violent noise while trying to boot like the little spinning thing the disc is sitting on is skipping or something.

Now the symptoms are when it's making this weird noise and trying to boot I can see the laser kinda bounce near the center of the disc but never reach the edge of the disc and fully boot.

I have discovered if I apply pressure with my finger and a cloth or paper towel on the following image near the center of the disc on the opposite side of the laser for a few seconds while the game is trying to boot it will boot. If I don't apply enough pressure after a few seconds it won't boot and say unreadable disc. If I apply too much pressure the disc will just stop spinning altogether and say the same error.

Some games I can play fine after booting, some I have do this trick on some or all of the loading screens. If its a quick loading screen it'll make the noise but usually fix itself.

I also tried using foam on the top case to apply pressure where my finger goes but that didn't seem to work either.

Any ideas on what part needs replacing or an easy fix?
