Rumor: Microsoft Plans Motion Sensing Controller

If what we're hearing out of Saratoga, California is true, Xbox 360 owners can expect to be playing motion sensing games, much like that of the Wii or PS3, by the end of next year. The details are still sketchy, but it appears a first-party add-on to existing controllers may be the delivery method of the technology.

It appears Microsoft has contracted the Saratoga, California firm, Gyration to handle the peripheral. If that name sounds familiar, it's for good reason. Gyration is the company responsible for the prototype designs of the Nintendo Wii-mote, which we all know has become a huge success.

Say it ain't so sad.gif

Ugh, such conformity. I hate motion sensing controllers. They're dumb. I have a Wii.. and I played it for like a month. I'm a lazy gamer. I like moving as little as possible when I game.

But, I guess it's mainly an option. I don't have to get this add-on if I don't want to. And options are good I suppose.

We'll seee

I guess wii'll have to wait and see smile.gif

Yeh, i agree though, options are good, but I'm like you a "lazy gamer" but i guess others may like it, options are good. Though i cant see it being a great success with the 360 if im honest.

At least its an optional addon.  It may do well in Arcade marketplace.  If the games are cheap(arcade prices) and it actually works good it could draw some casuals over.

It's about time. Talk about missing the boat! A lame-ass motion controller is all the xbox 360 needs for world domination muwwhaahaaa  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)

Seriously. This is a no brainer. I just wonder what took them so damn long. The first month of wii sales should have sent the researchers into overdrive to get something to market. MS$ already has cool kids games, just need the kiddie controller and they are set...

Totally.  I bought the camera thinking there'd be a bunch of games like eye toy but all we got was totemball, which sucks.

I think motion sensing controllers have a long way to go before they become at all acceptable input devices... just think how long analog sticks took... I still used the DPAD years after analog sticks came out.

I think motion sensing controllers are going to become much more useable in the future but they will have to overcome some issues related to how easy and natural it is to use them.

As for that guy who made the wii head tracker... I normally don't put a lot of weight into stuff like that but... OH HELL YEAH DO THAT!!! Someone please make games that utilize that!  It's like budget VR glasses... all you really have to do is link that to the camera control in most games and it would already be friggin amazing!

head tracking does seem to be really sweet ...that would be a great add on ... linked with the xbox controller and playing a fps game would be greater then ever

Hey  - don't forget that the motion controller targets a diffentent market. Motion controllers are for kiddies and girls (ok and some gyus). Thats where the Wii has most of its success from. If indeed MS has just decided to develop a motion controller now - they missed the boat by months. And if they release it, they should offer a better support for this thing, than for the vision camera or (a bit off topic) windows vista ultimate.

Cheers,
Michael

I'd definitely get one, then I could put the Wii up the loft and have the best of both worlds - 'serious' games for me to play, and 'easy' games for me to play with wife and kids who are crazy about the Wii, especially the Wii Zapper.
