0110 Gpu Error?
« on: December 25, 2007, 10:07:00 AM »

Hi, havent posted on the forums for quite some time, well, since i gave up my origional xbox.
I got a 360 for christmas (today), unfortunately my parents couldnt afford a brand new one, so i ordered a used one from ebay, with upgraded cooling, on delivery i checked it and found it was working.

SO opened the console today  , plugged it in and got 3 rlod (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Error code 0110: GPU error

it hasnt been used for around a month so i dont knwo why it would do this.

Just after dsome advice, as have very little money.

Do you think an x-clamp replacement would work?
Is there anyway to just upgrade thermal interface material with as5 without replacing x-clamps?

When i boot i get 3 rlod and no display whatsoever.

Thanks in advance

sorry to double post but...
I have found that the x-clamp replacement has already been carried out, but very poorly, with no washers and by the looks of it old thermal paste not being replaced.
I replaced the thermal paste and put in some washers, fired it up and now have the "unknown (possibly overheating" error 0020.
I do not know what to do now with this, i have contacted the seller of the item as the modifications carried out on this console were very poorly done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) My christmas just gets better and better (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Alright, first calm down. Looks like you're having a breakdown!

You first want to make sure you used the correct washers. If you have, good.
Make sure all the screws are screwed in very tight, with great power.

Then the baking trick comes in. Leave the Xbox 360 on without fans running for about 2 mins (or shorter/longer), until the 2 lights of overheating appear. Let it cool down for about 30 mins, plug the fans back in, and try it out.

Works for me all the time, on over 20 Xbox 360s with all kinds of secondary error codes.

Merry christmas btw (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

Than ks for the reply, and merry christmas to you too, i've heard that this method can work, but isnt a good idea as can shorten life of the box.

Anyway, i've been tinkering with the gpu heatsink all day and too tights gives me an error code of 0020 : "unknown", medium gives me 0110 "GPU Fault" and too losse gives 0102.

So definately looks to me like a GPU dry joint or something similar.

If i were to do this method, should it be inside the case? and will the overheating lights definately come on?

Sorry to double post again!
Cant work out how to edit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

IT WORKED!!

wasnt too sure at first, but thought its my last resort, so gave it a go, and it did the trick, booted straight up.
Took 5 mins to overheat, and left it whilst i played on my xbox origional, until i got bored of witing and had to trey it.

So once again, thankyou for your advice, although it has taken me all day, you have saved my christmas (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

So you're absolutely sure you used the correct washers and screws, good thermal paste, and you've screwed everything back very tight? Because then it should really work.

Yeh, made sure everythign was correct. Well, it kept playing on and off for a couple of seconds before freezing.
Now its developed into a 1022 error: "There is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In rare cases it is a problem with the GPU." With 1 flashing red light, so now i dont know what to do, guess i can just hope the seller will replace the box.

Your box is now dead  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . I mean from its past who knows how it was treated. Poor X-Clamp, AS5 not being replaced? That looks like a bad console to me. Just try to return it, if not just sell it as-is broken you can atleast get $150 with all the cables and stuff. Best of luck!

Thanks, well, the seller has agreed to take it back, but just hope he'll replace it, problem is, he wont refund, only repair/replace (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
And atm its being intermittant with an occasional blinking screen. It always has green lights and is then interupted with a single red light, with error 1022.
The problem wasnt caused by me, but by a lousy repair and as you said, the past is questionable so hopefully i'll get a better replacement.
I have stated that i want a replacement that any mods have been carried out to a good standard, not bodged.

Thanks once again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thats great news  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) . Maybe you will get a new one thats better. Hopefully this will have a M$ seal if not, at least a good repair job if any at all.
