I have been looking around the forums for some time and never hear about the PS3 being a piece of crap dying by the hundreds. The only thing I use to read was the game library being small. The game library must be improving as I don't read too many complaints any more.  Its still not modded  & must be making a lot more $ then m$ even with a smaller user base.

You won't because one thing you can say about the PS3 is that it is a quality built system, Great silent cooling and dvd drive, I can't hear mine when its on.

I'm using the old power supply with a new falcon and haven't had any problems.  The plug is the same except the new one doesn't "lock" in.

The come primarily with BenQ, but they also come with Hitachi, which are apparently the loudest.   Here's a link to a whole database.

http://www.360drives.com/list

There are a couple of large threads on the xbox.com forums that go into the drives, fans, zephyr, falcon, etc.

Here's a link to one I have been following:

Got me a Falcon sitting under the Christmas tree!    biggrin.gif

Edit:   And I agree with the post a few threads above that was complaining about MS.   The way they do stupid things to save a dollar or two is ridiculous.   This includes noisy fans, noisy drives, and the CPU socket.    You would like to hope that by the time the next major version after Falcon comes out they get their head out of their .... but I doubt they will.

Or just buy one and play games, most stores have empty boxes on display anyway so your choice is going to be pretty restricted.

I have an Xbox 360 Arcade
MFR 10-17-2007
PSU: 203v

Opened it up to replace fans, and X-clamps ..
Noticed the Falcon landed on my motherboard, and it is alot smaller than the original CPU ..

The plugs are different...

There is some plastic lock in the middle of the plug, you cant plug a 175w power supply into a 203w xbox360.

BTW the 175w plug, is all plastic..

I have a picture somewhere... unsure.gif

The Falcon is still no improvement on the current  1st generation 360 so buyer beware !!!

How do you know this? Just because you may have heard of a couple of the new systems going down doesn't mean that you can make an assumption like that. Check the numbers in a year before you make statements like that. I will guarantee that these will have a lower failure rate than the ver 1 boards.

The PS3 has still yet to release any blockbuster exclusives yet. If you want a gaming sysytem, get a 360, if you want a Blu Ray player, get a PS3.

Purchased in November from Newegg.

Came with no HDMI cable, Forza 2 & Marvel Ultimate Alliance
lot: 0734
team: CSON
203w on box and power brick
Benq drive
man date: 8/27/07

For the record, this unit is extremely quiet and after 5 hours of straight gameplay was barely warm to the touch.

Here is a picture of my unit's insides:

That my friend is a Zephyr, not a Falcon.

Actually, that looks like a falcon, the angle and exposure kind of throws you off.

The 360 GPU & CPU needs to be socketed to stop the rrod which costs .20 cents, if manufacturing millions it would cost even less. They would rather spend a couple of billion to prove that it isn't flawed & send you out another one every 18 months.

They are now starting to lose ground and it is only a matter of time they will be ass kicked. The bans is a total mess as they are banning those that don't have firmware mods, including myself having one system that has never been modded being banned.

The Falcon is still no improvement on the current  1st generation 360 so buyer beware !!!
I'm so disappointed with M$ management not ass whipping the incompetent & fixing the problems, they must not really give a crap about the product just the $ they can bring in!!
However,

The original xbox is still going strong & is the best investment I ever made by adding XBMC!!!

How can you claim they care only about money and yet bash them for not taking the most cost-efficient route by socketing the CPU and GPU for such a small price?  If they did as you say for the small price of .20 cents then they wouldn't have to pay truckloads of cash to fix defectives and would as a result MAKE MORE MONEY.

To say they care only about money when they aren't making nearly as much as they could is just a little misguided isn't it?

Now, if you said all they care about is public perception, then you might be on to something.

You can tell by looking at the heatsink, usually I think you can see a bar code on the side of the heatsink which is the easiest to see.

Just picked up a 360 Arcade last night. Box had 203W on the outside, lot # 742, Manu Date 11-02-07.

Inside was a 175W power brick and a nice new falcon 360 with a BenQ. Noticably more quiet than my Elite with an Hitachi 79K.

So if you're looking to get a 360 Arcade with a falcon, I say just make sure the date is Nov or newer and you should be good.  biggrin.gif
