How to Spot a Xbox360 With a Falcon Chip Without Opening the Box

All you need to do is look at the UPC symbol and see the 175W, which is the wattage for the newer power supply. This confirms that a Falcon chip is inside and not the Zephyr, which is an older model.

Note: v1 and Zephyr (v2) boards seems to have '203W' written on the box.

Good to know.  Is it OK to use the old power supply with the Falcon mobo?

while this may indicate if a falcon is inside, it is not a tell all method. there are lots of reports (http://www.360drives.com/list) of boxes that are marked 203w that are indeed falcons and have 175w PSUs (specifically that i have seen, lot 742 and newer arcades.)

Sure there are Falcons with 203w PSUs, but this is a sure fire way to know that it's a Falcon board inside.

They've got different plugs though... you can plug the new ps to both motherboards but you can't plug the old ps to the new mb ... At least in my case, where both ps are 203w.

Tis great, that you finally posted about this even though it has been known on the xbox live forums for almost two weeks now.

And just letting you know Falcons are not the gift of god, my falcon is RROD error code 0110. Brand new elite console lot #741 team cson, power supply = 175 watt, visually checked for heat pipe, haven't yet modded the BenQ drive luckily. Confusing as shit is the RROD will only error out if the console is left off for say 5-6 hours and the console will in fact start up on the second power on attempt, and then it will run flawlessly forever.

Not saying that Falcons will in fact die, but they ain't perfect, mines probably an isolated case as it will in fact run fine after the initial start up. Who cares as I'm returning it under a store return policy valid till Jan 8th.

The 360 GPU & CPU needs to be socketed to stop the rrod which costs .20 cents, if manufacturing millions it would cost even less. They would rather spend a couple of billion to prove that it isn't flawed & send you out another one every 18 months.

They are now starting to lose ground and it is only a matter of time they will be ass kicked. The bans is a total mess as they are banning those that don't have firmware mods, including myself having one system that has never been modded being banned.

The Falcon is still no improvement on the current  1st generation 360 so buyer beware !!!
I'm so disappointed with M$ management not ass whipping the incompetent & fixing the problems, they must not really give a crap about the product just the $ they can bring in!!

However,

The original xbox is still going strong & is the best investment I ever made by adding XBMC!!!

I have been looking around the forums for some time and never hear about the PS3 being a piece of crap dying by the hundreds. The only thing I use to read was the game library being small. The game library must be improving as I don't read too many complaints any more.  Its still not modded  & must be making a lot more $ then m$ even with a smaller user base.

Two questions about these falcons...

1. Are they noticably quieter than the older models in particularly on the dash and when streaming vids. I am aware most of the noise comes from the dvd drive but when streaming videos there is no dvd drive action and it's still pretty loud.

2. What is the current DVD drive in the majority of these?
