Pot Teak Question
« on: December 13, 2007, 07:15:00 PM »

I don't have a multimeter.  Is it possible to tweak the pot by turing it so much (e.g., half turn, quarter turn, 1/8 turn...), and not measuring the resistance?  I know I can get a multimeter from radioshack for 20 bucks which I will do if necessary....

@ polomaan - Trying the POT tweak with no multi-meter is asking for trouble. Not all drives are set the same way and attempting it without measuring it first and afterwards could fry the thing, then you'll be installing a new one for sure.

@ georgc - Google it, '360 POT Calibration'. While the POT tweak is for some drives that have issues with backups, a bad laser can also result in the drive 'acting up' in other ways as well, slower load times, DDE (Dirty Disc Errors), playing movies but not games, etc., so if it's a stock drive and you're having issues with it trying the POT tweak first is a good idea, followed by replacing the laser.
