Are The New 360's More Stable?
« on: December 09, 2007, 06:58:00 AM »

I've got an early 360 which has been modded, however it suffered from the 3 red light problem. Followed the 12 penny guide on here and it fixed it but it now hangs even before getting into the main menu on any game. No red lights, just a hang. It's been like this for ages and I just want to play some games. I can't even watch any of my HD DVD movies.

I'm considering getting a new 360 and having it modded again but I want to make sure that I get one that is stable and one that doesn't suffer from the 3 red light problem. Are there any known new models that are a lot better? What is the 360 Elite like? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You basically answered your own question. All three skus use the new revised mobos and so its just a matter of buying one that was manufactured recent enough for the changes.

At the moment mainly arcades and premiums have the new Falcon board. You'll find that most elites are still on zephyr. Out of around 20 falcons i've only seen one in an elite.

Falcon motherboard doesn't guarentee anything. They haven't done anything to the GPU, which was what almost all 3RLOD 360s can be attributed to. Don't think the added heatsink did much. It still has very little airflow and it still gets hotter than hell.

I think that's what I'm after. Was wondering if the new 360s cured the problem but it seems as though the Falcon board doesn't do that. May wait for a newer design that does.

I don't see why you would want to wait because you get a three year warranty so that means if something does mess up your covered up to 2011 and by then the new cpu/gpu should be reduced in size.

That is true for unmodded 360s but I am interested in modding mine. I don't want to buy a new 360 if it is susceptible to the same problems as the current one I have.

Naturally, the newer 360s are going to be more reliable, theyre newer revisions of the design. Yes, there still is a chance the 360 could break, but that chance is a lot slimmer now.

If your going to open it for modding purposes, your best bet would be to get the newest revision of motherboard.
