Xbox 360 Updates

So ever since they've been banning people, I havent signed up on xbox live. I don't even know if I'm banned yet. I had my xbox360 modded around 7 months ago (I think). Is there a way I can get the important updates without signing on or even download demos/movies from my pc and then load them onto the xbox HD?


Other question I have is how do I know if I have the update that automatically has the drive upconvert?
