Xbox Drive Wont Work!
« on: November 22, 2007, 01:07:00 PM »

Hi there

i recently received my first xbox 360 unused. and i tried to flash it
using the toolbox i think its the maximus one.

anyway i did the raw dump then and this message came up saying do you want to open it i clicked yes and it gave me a fileruntime error message. i tried again no luck. repeated it 14 times and got 14 dumps.

then i used the other optiion iXtreme1.2_rev2_Hitachi_Sense_Fixfw and it said firmware straight to drive i click it. then a loading bar came up meaning its flashing but it crashed half way through.

this gave me an error and i had to click no until it got to the end of the bar. i got worried so connected the xbox 360 to my tv and gt a error message 65. but when i unplug the drive it loads the xbox 360 menu and says oppening drive and if i connect it back it goes to the error screen.

the drive does eject or even spin the bxo 360 can't detect it.

is the drive dead or bricked or is there anyway i can fix it.
i have the original firmware key and the drive is 78. i have a windows vista computer which i connected it.

please help me or i have just lost £200 pleassssssssssssee

but can you or someone else give me a guide on how to fix it

its a hitachi drive 78

thanks

Sounds like ya bricked it to me. You'll need to remove the FW IC and reprogram it with an external programmer. That whole process involves 3 kinda involved steps, removing the epoxy around the SST chip, removing the chip itself, then having a programmer to unbrick it. If ya have all of the necessary tools and skill to do it then ya probably wouldn't have posted, so I recommend sending the drive off to someone that can do that kind of thing correctly.

You also have the option of replacing the entire drive also, since you do have a backup of the FW and key. Just have to dump the new drives FW, inject that key into it and then spoof it to report it's really a v78 if it's a different model or version.

There are guides in the 360 Newbie Chat forums pinned section on how to install a new drive, key injectinf, spoofing etc. As for removing the SST chip and unbricking it with a programmer, there aren't any guides that I know of, and that's something that really needs to be done by someone with the correct tools and experience anyway, especially if you're going to attempt to salvage the drive, ya don't wanna go at that process unless ya know what you're doing or you'll be replacing the drive for sure.
