Argh, can't Get Drive Visable In Windows (hitachi)
« on: February 02, 2020, 04:52:00 PM »

Right, I'm trying to replace my Hitachi DVD Drive with a Samsung drive. I've gotten the Hitachi into ModeB by using the Two wire trick.

In my PC i have a Via 6421 PCI sata card, but everytime i hook the Xbox Drive up to the PC, It doesn't show up in windows. The bootup screen usually takes ages, sometime locking up altogether. When I do eventually get into windows, the drive doesn't show up at all in the device manager, instead, I get a yellow xclamation mark on the VIA Pci card. Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem right now.  I will post a fix as soon as I am able to find one.

Right bratwurst, I finally got it working. I did a bit of reading and searching here on the forums, and found that some people were trying the following:

1. Connect DVD to PCI Sata Card (On the primary connector, the one at the back)
2. Start Windows
3. At the windows loading screen, turn on the xbox with the 2 wire trick
4. High Five Self

Unfortunatly this wasn't quite working for me and I found windows stalling at boot up. I eventually got it working and showing up in Device Manager by only turning on the xbox between the windows loading screen and the windows desktop (when the screen goes black). It seems to be a matter of timing, so keep trying and it will work

I remember using the Slax CD when I flashed my Hitachi drive.  I remember the guide saying to repeatedly eject and inject the tray over and over again when the computer is on the windows boot screen.  I don't know if it's the same for the 2 pin method.
