Yeah that's always a possibility, selling it I mean. I wouldn't have it reflowed because that's not a guaranteed fix and the Microsoft repair comes with a warranty I believe. I would hate to not be able to open my Xbox360 anymore so I don't know yet. I might just tough it out until the new Falcon boards are the standard in all 360's and get one of those. I'd feel safe voiding my warranty if I had a Falcon 360, but if I sent mine in who knows when it would start dying again.
@thedethklokDo you have any cooling mods done yet? 12v? Whisper fans at least? My problem is that it freezes on cue at the exact same moment every time, not randomly after like an hour. This is good for you though because since it sounds like it's overheating, all you need to do is make sure it's getting efficient cooling and then you'll be fine. I know a fan blowing on it seems good, but try the 12v mod along with the fan shroud splitter and see if that helps. Also try redoing the X-Clamp replacement mod if you've already done it. If you haven't done it...then do it, can't hurt. I think I'm going to try RBJTech's method because I'm using LawDawg's now, but I doubt it would do much good since I seriously doubt mine is overheating. I've got more opinions from another board and they seem to think the GPU has a bad solder point under it or something like that, which I can't possibly fix.
And just for the heck of it, I might try what this dude did:
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=538430My problems actually did start after I flashed the drive, so who knows, maybe I'll get lucky. I'll take a working Xbox with stock DVD drive then freezing Xbox with hacked DVD drive, haha.
Let me know if any of that helps!
Good point man, Thats why I only reflow boards myself. At least if it doesn't work I don't really lose out on anything (err.. besides your xbox not working.) And you're probably better off, unless you feel like cutting an air vent and upgrading the power to your fans with a 90nm it's better to just wait it out for the Falcons. They actually got the heatsink for the GPU down on them I'm fairly confident (copper heat pipes are
Try disconnecting the HD, and try reconnecting the DVD drive too. Since it's a DVD drive timeout it wouldn't hurt to check it's connections. If still nothing, you could have a dead DVD board, although I'm sure that is pretty rare. Also, you could have a dead solder joint coming off the southbridge, since the southbridge controls the DVD drive.
