I'm looking for a new motor. I have a 78k

Is it safe to say that a motor from a hitachi 47, will work in a 78? how about other models....any hitachi model motor work in any other hitachi?

Of course I don't expect a sammy to work

Any 360 Hitachi version motor will work in any other Hitachi, as for other Hitachi PC drives (if that's what ya meant) it's hard to say without taking them apart or knowing model numbers and pinouts of the things. If yours is acting up you can take it apart and clean then relube it, that usually straightens them up if it feels like it's not spinning freely. If the Spindle is damaged then it would need to be replaced for sure. If it's not working at all it could be the motor or it could be the Motor Controller IC on the board that's bad.

yeah i meant 360 drives only.

Mine doesn't spin at all. The laser mechanism will move forward and back, but the motor doesn't even twitch or anything. It spins freely if I turn it myself, and doesn't seem stiff or stuck in anyways.

Was the drive flashed? or attempted to be? It could be the motor, or it could be the MCIC and if it's the latter that's a bit of a mess to get fixed up.

drive was flashed back in feb 06. Fine until 2 nights ago...and poof.

If ya have a friend with a working Hitachi drive you can swap logic boards between them and see if the problem is still there. That will tell ya if it's a problem with the board or the motor before ya go buying anything.
